Mother of Penguins' GM passes away at 86

Mariette Shero, mother of general manager Ray Shero, died Sunday.

She was 86, and was the widow of former NHL coach Fred Shero.

In addition to Ray Shero, she is survived by another son, Jean-Paul of Boston.

Mrs. Shero was a native of Shawinigan, Quebec, where she was one of 13 children, and lived in Cherry Hill, N.J. before moving into an assisted-living facility in Upper St. Clair several years ago.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 p.m and 6-8 p.m. at Beinhauer Funeral Home in McMurray.

A mass will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at: St. John Capistran Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Harmony Hospice in Carnegie, the Mario Lemieux Foundation or the Comcast-Spectacor Foundation Flyers Wives Fight for Lives in Philadelphia.
