On July 23rd, we visited Parry Sound, a.k.a. Bobby Orr country. We stayed at the Parry Sound KOA. Parry Sound is a great day trip for the hockey enthusiast. Don Cherry's restaurant, the Bobby Orr Community Centre and the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame are all within walking distance of each other. I recommend parking at the community centre and walking to Don Cherry's and driving to the Hall of Fame.
Don Cherry's is a regular sports bar with a lot of Bobby Orr and Don Cherry memorabilia. It's worth a stop, if you like hockey.
The Bobby Orr Community Centre is a hockey rink. Again for the hockey crazy, you might like this.
The Bobby Orr Hall of Fame is very good. It's $8 for adults and $6 for kids. They have games and lots of jerseys and trophies on display. It's not big, but well worth the cheap price.
If you are ever at a NASCAR event, then I recommend the Sprint FanView. From your RV or seat, you can only see what's immediately in front of you.
The FanView gives you the same video that you would get at home from the comfort of your couch. It's also got several in-car views and audio from all the drivers/pitcrews. If you are in your RV, then bring along some speakers and you can blast it for your entire family/group to hear. I rented two headsets, but we rarely used more than just the one. We were located directly next to PA system speakers, so we didn't actually need volume, as the PA was blasting the same audio as the FanView.
Last year at Pocono, we rented the audio only version. I don't recommend those. The FanView is a bit more expensive ($50 for the weekend) and completely worth it. You don't have to return the FanView immediately after the race. You can return it the next day at any UPS Store. This frees you up to party after the race.
Twenty years prior, Richard Petty won his last of 200 races. It was on July 4th at Daytona. The race was called the Pepsi 400 back then. It was recently renamed the Coke Zero 400. This video shows Richard Petty in his old familiar 43 STP pacing the field before this year's Coke Zero 400 on July 4th, exactly 25 years later.
The national anthem and flyover prior to the 2009 Coke Zero 400 at Daytona. Sorry, my kids and I were singing along and my awful singing was closest to the mic.
Ahmad Smith's play on 4th and long, final four, was legendary. I can't wait for the video. Last play kickoff. 28-28. Michael Irving tells Smith to make a play on defensive special teams. He causes a fumble that leads to the winning touchdown with zero time on the clock. I can't even imagine that it was real. Was it fake?
The Subway Jalapeno 250 is the NASCAR Nationwide race at Daytona Speedway, the night before the Coke Zero 400. We were camped inside turn 4. Here's a pic of the Goodyear blimp.
Two pics of the flyover.
And a pic from atop the motorhome.
Kyle Busch finished 2nd to Clint Bowyer. Kyle has been on a roll this year in the NASCAR Nationwide series, finishing 1st or 2nd in most of the races. This was the first double-file restart race in the Nationwide series.
Video from the first Coke Zero 400 practice at Daytona raceway (2 weeks ago). We were allowed to enter the pit area (free) during this first practice.
Here's some pics from the Coke Zero 400 practice session. Here's Denny Hamlin, one of the stars of the race, giving my son an autograph. Denny is now on of my youngest daughter's favorite racers. She use to cheer for Kyle Busch. Now she likes the entire team. They also got autographs from Joe Nemechek and lugnuts from Kyle Busch, Jimmy Johnson and many more.
The pit area was open (free) to the public during the first Nationwide and Spring practices.

We were at the Coke 400 on top of our RV inside turn 4 at Daytona. Tony takes out Kyle right in front of us. It was spectacularly awesome.
I have received emails and letters sent from BEST, an agency representing athletes and NFL Players. They are threatening legal action against Talk-Sports.com for comments on our website and they discuss measures they will take to shutdown Talk-Sports.com. In addition, they have acted upon one of the measures. The emails were sent on behalf of LaRon Landry, an NFL player.
The emails have included a letter from the NFL Players (the players union) to Rapid Spiral Development Inc., the owner of Talk-Sports.com. The letter was supposedly faxed and mailed first class to Rapid Spiral. Rapid Spiral has never had a fax, we do not recall ever receiving the letter, nor do we have such a letter on file. The letter from NFL Players may be fraudulent. We have emailed Tim Christine (Directory of Security) and Tom DePaso (Regional Director) of the NFL Players Association to verify the authenticity of the letter. Neither has responded.
We can only assume from their actions and inactions that BEST and NFL Players are attempting to have Talk-Sports.com shutdown. We have no choice at this time, but to suspend our free bronze membership program for all NFL players. We will send this blog entry as an email to all the affected players.
