Video from the Carfax 400 at Michigan. We were sitting in the General Admission grandstand.

The U.S. National Anthem and the flyover at the Carfax 400. The flyover was disappointing; not loud enough.

They played the Canadian national anthem at the Carfax 400, Michigan International Speedway. I wasn't expecting it, so I didn't tape from the beginning.

August 16th, we went to the Carfax 400 at the Michigan International Speedway.

This was another excellent race. Jimmy Johnson ran out of gas after completely dominating the race. That's the 2nd time that's happened to him at Michigan in 2 races this year. I can understand that he didn't need the points, so it was 1st or last. On the other hand, I don't understand what Mark Martin was thinking. He desperately needed the points to stay in the chase and ran out of gas as well.

The winner was Brian Vickers. That's the first time Red Bull has won a NASCAR event. I got to pick dinner, cause I predicted Vickers would win. I just had a feeling.

Because of the rain out on Sunday, we had fence line seating at the Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway on August 3rd.

Also because of the rain out, all infield guest were allowed in the pit area, grandstand and fan zone. No charge. You could sit feet behind the pit areas.

Unfortunately, Nextel had closed down there usually free WiFi area in the fan zone and left. How was I gonna get my work done? I walked around the fan zone for 20 minutes before I found an open signal coming called T88. I assumed that meant Team 88 (a Dale Jr trailer?). I found it. Thanks to Dale Jr and team for letting me work for an hour before the race outside their merchant trailer.

Sunday August 2nd at Pocono raceway was good, bad and awesome. The good was that it didn't rain much in the after. The bad was that the race was postponed anyways because there was so much rain in the previous week that they couldn't dry the track. The awesome was that the person across the path from us left and gave us his fence-line site.

Check out the pond just down the path from us. Kids were running their bikes thru it and older kids were running their 4x4s thru.

I continue to get more and more request from athletes to have their girlfriend forums on Talk-Sports closed permanently. Many have offered cash, but I don't feel right about taking money to close forums. That could be construed as extortion. I have decided that any player may get their girlfriend forum replaced by a video of the player talking to their Talk-Sports fans.

The fireworks at the Pocono August race weekend were only 15 minutes this year. I remember them being much better and much longer last year. Blame the recession.

Saturday morning, August 1st was final practice for the Pennsylvania 500. On the first lap and before we had finished breakfast, Tony Stewart hit the wall in turn 3 (where we were).

Saturday was also the Pennsylvania ARCA 200 at Pocono Raceway. We had infield seats for the weekend, but everybody from the infield was allowed in the pit area, grandstand and fan fair (no cost).

I have to thank Sprint Nextel for the free Internet. This allowed me to catch up on my emails and maintaining the Talk-Sports website.

It had been raining all weekend and both (ARCA and Sprint) Friday qualifying sessions were cancelled. Our own RV site was overwhelmed with water and we moved our RV to occupy the dry spot of two adjacent sites.

My wife and kids loved Coco Bongos inside Pocono Raceway. Basically, you buy one of the carved coconut shells, which comes with one refill. You can buy more refills as needed.  They had all the flavors, many of them twice.

This was the second year we've been to Pocono and Coco Bongos was there each year. The vendor also goes to other racetracks and events.

Once inside the Pocono Raceway, your options compared to other tracks like Daytona, become very limited. The raceway is in the middle of nowhere, so walking outside and around the track isn't very fun at all. It's surrounded by forest. Inside the track, there is some entertainment, but very little.

They had a Bacardi tent that served alcohol, a stage where they played blue-grass Friday and Saturday nights, some discount NASCAR shopping tents, Gyro hut, Coco Bongos (virgin mixed drinks), the SpeedTV stage, a Kid's Zone. Some pics attached.

We had about 3-4 gyros, a half dozen virgin mixed drinks, a half dozen corn dogs. We walked back and forth from the entertainment area about twice daily. You have to make your own fun to fill the gaps.

Last weekend, we attended the NASCAR race at Pocono Raceway, a.k.a. the Pennsylvania 500. The next two pics are of us in the tunnel (under the track) and coming out of the tunnel inside the raceway.

It had been raining all week and the infield had more than one unplanned pond.
