Summer Vacation, Day 25, August 2nd 2010.
The morning after the big race. The RV is a mess.
Actually, the entire Pocono infield is a mess.
In fact, I'm a mess.
I can't believe we got a fenceline RV spot two years running. Last year, we stayed in spot 6.
Before I started packing up. At this point, there's on a few dozen RVs left in the infield.
Leaving via the tunnel in turn 2.
Video leaving thru the tunnel. At the very end of the vid, my mirror hits the sidedoor. "Oh Jezz!"
On the way home, we drive right by The Glen, the next race. The two Sprint trucks pulling off followed us from Pocono.
And then we went home and the vacation was temporarily over :_(
Summer Vacation, Day 24, August 1st 2010.
It rained a bit at the start of the race and delayed it a half hour. The person in front of me packed up their RV and took off. I pulled into their fenceline spot. Last year, we were in spot 6. This year, fenceline spot 7.
From row seats.
Jimmie sucks! Just like my Leafs.
I think my awning needs some major repairs.
The Biff won the race. His victory celebration.
Supper time. I love charcoaling.
Then we shared a campfire with the neighbors. I had so much wood left. Needed to burn it.
Summer Vacation, Day 23, July 31st 2010.
The Saturday of the Pocono weekend was the 1st Camping World Truck race held there. Big day. But let's start with breakfast. Like my setup? That's my propane grill on top of my mounted dual purpose firepit-charcoal grill. I have it all.
I refer to my kids as ABC (their 1st initials), so when we say ABC hashbrowns, we bought in.
Gotta love this bar slash golf cart. NASCAR fans have the greatest golf carts.
View from the rooftops. Some of these rooftop contraptions are amazing.
Let's go truck race.
My tat. LOL! Temp. Lame. FAIL!
Awesome M&M golf carts.
The neighbors on the corner had the Nationwide race on TV for all to watch. My kids took advantage. These neighbors always occupy the same spot opposite fenceline site #1.
They also host beer pong and flip cup games. I rock at flip cup. After the guys lost about six games in-a-row, I showed them a couple tricks, joined in and we kicked the girls asses. I hit my 1st and only flip. I'm king of flip cup. I would've played longer, but I had the three kids.
Pics of all the Spring Cup favs during practice earlier in the day.
I was so excited that they crashed right in front of us on turn 3 that the camera work was a little shaky. The drive is #21 Donny Lia. He finished the race in 22nd place on the lead lap.
Summer Vacation, Day 22, July 30th 2010.
Nothing like waking up in the middle of a racetrack to the noise of cars going up to 200 mph.
View from the top of my RV.
This is the Camaro with hydromatic transmission on display in the Chevy area. WTF!? That is so ghey. That's a dual automatic-standard transmission where you change gears using a touch switch behind the steering wheel. What is the point of that? Give me a clutch or go home.
The Sprint Cup on display at the Sprint booth.
Check out the sunset. I'm living it.
Summer Vacation, Day 21, July 29th 2010.
I started the day with some Dunkin' Donuts coffee. Couldn't find Starbucks. I don't remember the last time I went to Dunkins. It was good coffee, not Starbucks.
Oddly, both Sunoco gas stations we passed were closed. I guess they were using the fuel for the race. LOL
That's Denny Hamlin's rig in front of us. He was moving at 80+ mph. I didn't realize it was his truck until it was almost too late to take a pic.
Going from Allentown to the racetrack, we go thru Lehigh Tunnel. I love tunnels.
Our turn off.
My setup. I park on a spot inside turn 3 immediately across from fenceline sites 7 and 8. It's always the same people in the area. Great people.
The SpeedTV setup in the infield.
The kids love the corn dogs here.
Coco Bongos is there every year. Directly in front of the tunnel of turn 2 (the tunnel turn). Your drink is put inside a coconut character head. If you bring back the coconut, then it's cheap, but we always forget them back home and end up buying another.
Brent Cross unloading and working on his car down by turn 1. My son and I walked right up to them and watched. Too cool!
The trucks pulling-in on Thursday. You can walk right up to the rigs. They line up on the infield near turn 2 for a truck wash.
Campfire and good night. 1st night at Pocono.
Guess where I went on July 27th? I stopped by the Darlington raceway. Didn't intend to. The wind brought me there. I was driving thru South Carolina and noticed Darlington was fast approaching. I immediately thought Darlington Raceway. Then a sign from god. Or was that a road sign. Darlington Raceway turn off ahead. I turned off.
I think it was 13 miles from the I95. WOOT!
Historical plaque located outside the museum.
A birds-eye view of the racetrack.
All the past champions. Winners of the Southern 500 and other Sprint Cup races held at Darlington.
The building is draped in classic images of the greats. Dale and Bobby.
Cale was one of the favs growing up. He was winning when I was a kid just learning about racing.
Love Darrell. But only after he cried when his brother won the Daytona 500 the day Sr died.
The real oldies.
Johnny Mantz was the 1st to win the Southern 500.
The museum has a bunch of old NASCAR cars. Bill Elliott, an all-time fan fav.
I believe this is what was left of Darrel Waltrips car.
Not that's not Kurt Busch's Miller Lite #2. That's Rusty Wallace's.
The blue #43 Plymouth.
Johnny Mantz was the 1st to win at Darlington.
The classic Hudson Hornet. The judge character from Cars was created from this car.
Some of the favs in the Stock Car Hall of Fame.
The trophy for fan fav.
Bill Elliott and Jr own this one.
The Southern 500 Trophy.
You can walk up these stairs and overlook the track.
Of late, someone calling herself Jillian Domani has been posting on Facebook, Formspring and Talk-Sports that she was dating several high profile athletes. She often posted on the Jonathan Toews girlfriend forum [http://www.talk-sports.net/nhl/girlfriend.aspx/Jonathan_Toews] that she dated Toews and his teammate; Patrick Kane. She appears to have created an elaborate network of friends who like to discuss the relationship status of athletes on Talk-Sports. She also befriended me and created fake profiles for her boyfriends and close friends. She even texted and called many of her Facebook friends from a 312 area code.
Some posters investigated and found that she had stolen her pics from a girl living in Austin, Texas. The girl, whose identity was stolen, contacted me on Facebook. I asked her to accept my FB friendship so that I may determine if she was a fake. I reviewed her FB account. She has pics and wall posts dating back more than a year. She has an elorate connection of real friends who have been tagged in a very large set of photographs. It's impossible for me to believe that this Texas girl could have created such a detailed FB account for more than a year, simply to discredit Jillian. As such, I have believe that Jillian stole her identity and created a completely fake profile.
When it became public information that she may have stolen the pics she claimed were her own, Jillian changed her FB profile name to Jillyun Ruhnay. She once told me that Rene was her middle name. You can still find her FB profile [http://www.facebook.com/saeeeglopur], but it is now completely private and she has unfriended myself and nearly all others. About two dozen girls have now contacted me and told me similar stories about their relationship online with Jillian. Many of the girls claimed to have established a very close relationship with Jillian online and over the phone. When pressed to meet her online friends, she always devised an excuse not to meet up. She claimed she had cystic fibrosis and was a medical student.
