Of course you're talking about the people who smoke marijuana, because if people didn't smoke it, there'd be no need for growers or dealers. Pro baseball players are not going to grow it themselves. It's illegal to have pot in your possession remember... in the dirt or in a pipe.

Ok, you're obviously very passionate about this subject, and I respect passion, but, you preaching that the entire pot smoking world should stop smoking because it's bad for the redwood tree saplings, is like the Sarah Palin trying to solve the teen pregnancy problem by telling horny teenagers to abstain from sex. I saw a stat the other day from polls taken in Bible Belt states that of the girls who "abstain" from sex for moral reasons, 68% preform oral, and 18% receive anal. "I'm saving myself for marriage... but I'll happily take it up the ass." My point is, it's naive of you to think people are going to stop getting high because it's "morally wrong." You'd be way better served by applying all that passion to the legalization process... as then your drug cartels would literally vanish overnight. If every guy in MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL stopped smoking pot tomorrow, the drug cartels will still not go away. Re-channel your passion girl... you have excellent points, but you're wasting it on the wrong audience. Legalize pot and tax the living shit out of it. Drug cartels... GONE. California deficit... GONE. Tim Lincecum's possession of an illegal substance charge... GONE. Ridiculous judgement of people you don't even know... GONE.

I'm not talking about people who SMOKE marijuana, I'm talking about people who grow and SUPPLY it to the local dealers who aren't growing it themselves. Ever heard of Mexican drug cartels? They illegally take over parts of national and state park land here in California and having big pot farming operations. To grow the stuff, they eliminate all other plants on the ground by spreading herbicides that kill plants, including redwood seedlings. The herbicide also goes into streams when it rains, killing fish and amphibians. They have armed guards around the operations, and they have killed people who come across their farms. They will kill any animals that also "disrupt" their operations. If you smoke dope, educate yourself about where the stuff comes from. The drug cartel dealers have also killed literally hundreds of people in Mexico and the United States. And yes, it is over marijuana growing, though they also deal in coke and heroin as well. People pay a huge mark-up for smoking a plant that would only cost a few dollars to grow themselves, and that huge profit goes to murderous criminals. American drug users should educate themselves about what their habits are doing to the environment and to the rest of the world. Look it up, the information is out there.
Another objection I have to pot is what it's doing to the environment and the way it contributes to the bottom line of the violent drug cartels. These folks are growing it on public land and destroying streams, the land, and killing animals. They kill and assault people, too. The chemicals they use to fertilize and to destroy plant life (redwood tree seedlings are being killed, for one thing) conflict with the hippie nature of many pot smokers. Wake up, people! Stop depending on getting high! You're contributing to the bottom line of killers and rapists, literally. You're making them rich and frittering your lives away. Tim included. If you insist on smoking, then get some seeds and grow it all yourselves. There are plenty of places on the Internet and books that will tell you how to grow your own pot in your own home. You can protect the environment and stop crime by doing that. I hope Timmy gets the word; maybe he can have a mini-indoor pot farm in his SF condo!
It can be a very negative thing for some people. It's supposedly not addictive, but I've known people who are definitely addicted. Like, have to have it when they get up in the morning, smell of dope all day, walk around with glassy and red eyes. And they are unmotivated. I also know a couple of people who stopped smoking because it was making them lose their edge. They quit going to school, lost jobs, etc. Just felt very lazy and didn't want to do anything but smoke dope, and that's what made them stop smoking. I'm not saying all people have that happen. It's similar to booze -- most can do it recreationally, but another group becomes alcoholics. They can't function, drive drunk, lose jobs, lose their families, etc. Have to have it every day, from the time they get up. No, it's not good to spend every day of your life chemically altered on anything. Almost all drugs come from plants. That doesn't make them good for anyone when they're used excessively. Oh, yeah, and smoke from anything, even candles and incense, is bad for your lungs if you're exposed too much.
