J.D. Drew demonstrates no interest in baseball. I will not miss J.D. Drew, not for a moment. Best of luck, goodbye.

David Jonathan Drew is 36. We see lots of short careers in pro sports because the level of play is so high. What sucks is to see disloyal fans turn on loyal players who are underperforming/slumping. Why do so may great players come to Boston and underperform? That masshole mentality sucks because its not even a game anymore, its just another ruthless business! So many great players on this team, that average ones appear to suck.  It seems the Sox had a bunch of slow starters this year. I suppose its easy for spoiled Sox spectators to just sit back and expect a great performance night after night. We have RedSox fans whinning and bitching with their team in 1st place. I agree that Drew is not so bad, and that there are far worse underperformers. He was just a big hero in one of the games against Oakland last month.  It was like a 6 hour frustrating game from hell, and he had that great walk off hit in the 14th inning. I assure you his teammates and everyone in attendance remember that moment.  He looks like a guy in his final year. Everyone sort of sucks at the end of their career. The RedSox know he's a team player who still can and will contribute. It's a long season especially for older players to maintain the elite level of play that is required nowadays. Chill.

Go with Reddick. He's a Theo prospect that has come up through the Sox farm system. Boot JD Drew. Enough of him.

Cut your losses now and designate him for assignment. He has been a bad sign by Theo and with Crawford back, play Josh Reddick in right every day. Trade deadline coming July 31, how would Carlos Beltran look in a Sox uniform!

I still believe in Drew. Cummon man. There are bigger fish to fry! Fact: JD Drew is a success story and will retire with many many millions, while you are, more likely, a jealous looooooser!!! Boston fans are hard to satisfy. What player ends his career with outstanding numbers??? Overall, Drew has been a solid player, both offensively and defensively, and has gotten plenty of clutch hits in his career. Stats don't lie. There is plenty of youtube footage for you spoiled little bitches. Why don't you research it for yourself instead of parroting what you heard on ESPN?! Lackey is a much bigger contract topic in my estimation. Crawford, 142 million? Drew is underachieving this year but will still redeem himself. Ordonez is a disappointment too, or what about Jayson Werth?? Adam Dunn sucks ass for 56 million! So many underperformers this year...Ichiro, Rios, Upton, Bay, Raburn, Zimmerman, Wright, H. Ramirez, Soto, Ruiz, Figgins, Alvarez, to name a few. Pujols has some issues. There are far worse performers defensively.  Fans should be fans. They should remain spectators, instead of getting so emotionally involved, or acting like players, coaches, owners, scouts, agents, critics, etc.  The networks and writers like to stir up strife and controversy. Its a greedy contractual business, get over it. Its not your team, or your money so shut up! Support your local teams instead of corruption and greed!

JD Drew sucks...every day that Theo and Francona keep him and play him is a disgrace to red sox nation.  Someday we will here a huge pop when they both pull there heads out!!!

Where is Dewey Evans? I will bet if we were able to dust him off and put him out there, even at 50 years old or whatever he is, he could do better than Drew. Unbelievable how the organization lets this classic underachiever get a spot on the team.

If you look at the other 29 teams, the vast majority of their guys - if not all of them - are NOT from the team's home town. I know Joe Mauer is playing in his home town but there are very few guys who are.

As far as off field, the Red Sox have well over 150 people in the front office and player services, etc. - excluding the partners. Not sure why that matters.

The Red Sox pay millions in taxes to both the City of Boston and the Commonwealth.

Not sure why any of this matters.

Did they make a mistake signing Drew? Heck yeah. I can't stand the guy. His play is very often iffy and that's nerve wracking to us fans.

I think he is in his last season with the Sox. His BA is something like only 220 but his OBP is 330 so that's good. The low BA comes from his aging.

His fielding stats are WAY high though.

I can't remember his signing bonus but it was in the millions and I remember that it shocked me. His agent is Scott Boras. That ought to explain his super high salary.

I wonder if theres anyone in the entire RedSox organization whos actually from Boston

Its mostly media hype

youre supporting big business greed

The sad truth is JD Drew is a multi millionaire and youre a stupid ass.

Support local teams.

Theres only been a couple of better right fielders during Drew's tenure and they are Abreu, Ichiro, and Ordonez, all make as much or more than Drew. Overall the management has gotten what they paid for if you check the stats. He is very calm and quiet which may be misinterpreted as indifference. He is struggling a bit this year buts its early yet. Remember Boston fans were ready to toss Ortiz? and Ellsbury? and so many others?...The media hype is brutal in Boston. Personally, I am a fan, and believe he will still redeem his season if given the opportunity.

$14 million to bat worse than a part time 39 year old catcher who's valued for his plate presence.  average speed, average power, terrible average, little power, where's the redeeming quality?  Utter garbage.  Not even like he has a personality or puts in effort to make things better.

Thank god someone set you straight man. Hey.. next time you want to rag on one of the Bosox.. try being a fan for longer than the last two seasons. I bet your one of the people ("fans") that joined Red Sox nation AFTER we won the 2007 WS. JD, in a clutch, hit a grandslam. It was beauiful and a pivotal moment for all sox fans who were watching that night. If you were as real fan, you would have that memory cemented in your brain. Its frustrating that the Bosox paid so much money for Drew and he's been disappointing offensively, but the GS almost makes it worth it.
----------
Let's not forget Game 2 of the 2008 ALDS. Or Game 5 of the 2008 ALCS (where he had *2* clutch hits). Or June 2008 when Ortiz hit the DL and Drew pretty much carried the Sox offense. He also tore it up in August and September 2009 to help the Sox reach the playoffs.

I don't care if he doesn't become a fan favorite, but I hope Sox fans can at least learn to appreciate what he's done for them over the years and give him an ovation/tribute in his final game.

I cant beleive someone put J.D. over nixon hell no. Watch the 2004 world series dvd nixon is a real player unlike lazy ass jd
------------
JD is and always has been a better player than Trot, as much as I loved Trot. :/
I wish they could have kept him, but he struggled after his Sox days (while Drew's had 2 average years (2007, 2010) and 2 great seasons (2008, 2009)).
