To add to my post at 20:29, Extra Bases just quoted Terry Francona as saying that although Julio is available to play tonight if needed, "He needed to be with his wife last night" and that it was a "pretty serious family issue." This makes me even more concerned that my earlier suspicions may have been correct. |

As a very big Lugo supporter, I've been hoping and praying that it was only minor, whatever it was. No mention of whether he had to leave town to attend to the emergency. A few months ago there was an article in the Globe that mentioned that his wife had an early miscarriage last year, and I found myself wondering if it happened again. I sincerely hope that wasn't the case. |

I couldn't believe when the Red Sox picked Lugo up. I mean, didn't anyone watch him play in Tampa? See his error prone past? Take a peak at his fielding percentage? The guys defense blows and he can't hit for power, much less for average on a consistant basis. What a bust. |

Lugo is terrible, always making errors, has no range what so ever. He cant even have a productive out never mind getting a hit.He doesnt care either he thinks he is there starting shortstop. Nick Green makes no where close what lugo does and is much more productive you scene nick greens defense lately diving stops ? lugo I hope you never play another game for us. |

Hang in there, Lugo- it seems that the RedSucks-AND THEIR FANS- would prefer to have an ALL-WHITE TEAM on the field. Last year, Manny got hip to it and now it's time for you and Ortiz to discover and withdraw yourselves from such a racist and INSENSITIVE environment as well. Good luck with that, though. Well, this is one Red Sox fan who doesn't want an all-white team. I love Julio, Papi, Ramon and MannyDel (I unfortunately lost all my respect for the other Manny because he acted the fool), and it breaks my heart to see the face of this team changing. I hope our Latino players will hang in there and do really well...so well that Theo and company decide to bring back the diversity that this team used to have. |

absolutely Green was much better. Lugo doesn't look like he is even trying! What is with his lax attitude towards defense? He's cost us a game against the rays and last night against the mets. |

This has to be the worst player the Sox have signed (with JD Drew a close second). A light hitting shortstop who can't field? Every ball hit to him is an adventure. Orlando Cabrera is better than any of the players they have shuffled thru this position since 04. |

once again lugo f's up a double play and scores 2 runs for the METS. i just don't get why they keep putting him in there at ss. better off with any ss from one of the local junior high girl's softball teams. |

I've hated Julio "Lubber" Lugo since he was traded to the Red Sox in '07. He can't field a simple slow ground-ball that just about any 11 year-old little league player could catch. He's pathetic. Last year, he had more errors than anyone else on the team. He was out in April this year but he's already on pace to lead in errors again. He is a lousy hitter too. |
