Matt just re-signed with the Twins. It's a 1-year deal worth $4.5MM with a $6MM option for 2013.

As a Twins fan I'm really conflicted about this. He was atrocious in 2011 but he recently admitted that he was pitching through shoulder problems. I think that it wouldn't have been as noticeable if the Twins weren't fielding a AAA-team because virtually every MLB player was hurt and/or sick. At the same time, re-signing Matt is an indication of just how bad the bullpen was last season. Glen Perkins and Joe Nathan were the only good pitchers. And with Nathan jumping ship and signing with the Rangers, that left Perk as the only decent reliever.

I'm not pleased with the amount Matt is getting paid (I think it's too much) but he could be a decent arm as long as he isn't the closer.

Matt Capps is no longer the closer. Joe Nathan is the Twin' closer again.

I think Capps needs a little extra incentive to close games. I bet he'd save 100% of the games if we promised him after each win he could eat all the fans leftovers! We could slop it in a pig troph for him.

I say either demote him and reinstate Joe Nathan as closer or give the role to Glen Perkins, or ship Matt to Rochester so he can get his head straight and work on his pitching. This is the second time I've seen him choke this month, and I'm getting sick of it. I don't mind one hitter getting on base, but coming in with a 1-run lead and letting the other team take the lead so many times gets tiring.

Also, it should speaks volumes to the coaches and FO when otherwise loyal and respectful fans boo upon hearing him announced as "now pitching for the Twins."
