umm actually you cant really look at wins/losses-- giants have weak offense, so of course they will lose more; its not necessarily the pitcher's fault timmy lasted longer (total +100 more innings than Carpenter throughout the season) and pitched better (had more than 100 strikeouts over Carpenter); sure Carpenter had some better numbers in certain categories, but it was close-- plus Carpenter had the advantage of having a 5 week break from an injury. so timmy has more strength/endurance too. so actually the voters werent high--lincecum deserved it

So this is another Timmy update from Chris Haft at the Giants website. CSN is already saying he'll start tomorrow's game. I like how Timmy gets on the Giants a little about playing better:

SAN FRANCISCO -- Tim Lincecum believes that the Giants need added motivation as they cling to the fringes of postseason contention.

"We've been pretty lax the last couple of days," Lincecum said on Sunday, after the Giants lost the first two games of their critical series against the Los Angeles Dodgers by a combined score of 19-4. "I think it's time for something to kick us in the butt. ... We have to turn something on. This is where it counts."

Lincecum might help provide that spark. The right-hander, who missed his last start with back spasms, is expected to start Monday night's series opener against the Colorado Rockies, who began Sunday leading San Francisco and Florida by 5 1/2 games in the National League Wild Card race.

"I just keep feeling better and better," Lincecum said. "The signs are pointing to yes for me."

Manager Bruce Bochy preferred to wait until after Sunday's series finale against Los Angeles to confirm whether his ace would pitch. Lincecum planned to engage in his usual day-before-start routine, including playing catch and exercising his "core" muscles.

"We want to make sure he's doing fine and make sure we're comfortable with what game he's going to start," Bochy said.

If Lincecum weren't able to pitch, rookie left-hander Madison Bumgarner, who replaced Lincecum on Tuesday against San Diego, likely would receive the assignment.

Lincecum grew up in the Seattle area and recalled the Mariners' comeback in the American League West against Anaheim in 1995. That year, the Mariners trailed Anaheim by 13 games on Aug. 2, yet rallied to win the division title in a playoff. With 20 games to go in the season, the number the Giants have remaining, Seattle faced a six-game deficit. That's similar to the Giants' current disadvantage.

"Obviously, we've kind of hit a skid in the last couple of days, dug ourselves a little bit of a bigger hole," Lincecum said. "But anything can happen this last month. It's all coming down to the last game -- that's the mentality we've got to have. Take a little stronger approach to every game. Every game is like a playoff-style game. We have to approach it like that."

Lincecum, the NL's reigning Cy Young Award winner who's 13-5 with a 2.34 ERA, itches to be part of that push, particularly after missing a start.

"I just want to be out there really badly," Lincecum said. "You feel like you kind of let your teammates down and people down in general."

Lincecum throws in 'pen, looks good to go

SAN FRANCISCO -- Right-hander Tim Lincecum, who was scratched from his most recent scheduled start last Tuesday with back spasms, threw off a bullpen mound Saturday without any apparent or immediate physical setbacks.

"Perfect," was how Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti described the session.

This means that Lincecum should be fit to start Monday night against the Colorado Rockies. The last time Lincecum faced Colorado, August 28, he surrendered four hits in eight shutout innings as the Giants won, 2-0.

One cautionary note: Nothing's official until the Giants say so, and that won't happen until Sunday, when the team's medical and/or training staff re-evaluates Lincecum. Occasionally, in any sport, an athlete recovering from injury will have a promising-looking workout but will report soreness or an aggravated ailment the next day.

Lincecum threw his entire variety of pitches during his workout, then did his required running in the outfield.

This is an update on Timmy's condition. By Chris Haft from the Giants website today:

"Giants ace Tim Lincecum is expected to throw off a bullpen mound Saturday, which would be a likely precursor to his starting a game during San Francisco's series against the Colorado Rockies next Monday through Wednesday.

If Lincecum avoids any recurrence of the back spasms that prevented him from making his scheduled start last Tuesday against San Diego, he conceivably could return to his regular spot in the rotation and pitch Monday.

"We don't have a target for a certain game, but that's a possibility," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Friday.

Lincecum said that Bochy, the coaching staff and the medical staff will determine when he starts again.

"They're going to gauge me and see where I am," said Lincecum, who's 13-5 with a 2.34 ERA and a Major League-high 233 strikeouts.

Throwing for the first time since he was sidelined, Lincecum played catch on flat ground Friday for about five to 10 minutes with bullpen catcher Bill Hayes, peaking at a distance of about 100 feet. The National League's reigning Cy Young Award winner appeared to throw freely and without pain as he stood on the left-field foul line in front of the Giants' bullpen. After throwing, Lincecum ran along the outfield warning track.

"We kept it simple," pitching coach Dave Righetti said. "We just wanted to make sure there was no tightness or cramping at all."

Before throwing, Lincecum said that his back has continued to improve.

"Right now I feel as close to normal as I can," he said.

Rookie left-hander Madison Bumgarner probably would replace Lincecum if he were unable to face the Rockies. Replacing Lincecum on Tuesday, Bumgarner, the Giants' most heralded pitching prospect, allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings and left the game with a 3-2 lead but ultimately received no decision in San Francisco's 4-3 loss."

This is an interview of Timmy that was done by David Brown at Yahoo Sports. It was done back in July of this year but I didn't know if anyone had read it so I'm reposting it here. I thought it was kind of fun to read:

Tim Lincecum's(notes) life has been a whirlwind, kind of like his trademark delivery, since he arrived in the majors two years ago. He won the Cy Young Award in his second season and, it was just announced, he's starting for the NL in Tuesday's All-Star Game. It's almost been a fairy tale or — to put it in modern terms — a cartoon for Lincecum, who not only rules reality but also its virtual counterpart. On the Giants' recent swing through St. Louis, Lincecum chatted with Answer Man and testified as to what it's like living such an animated existence.

David Brown: Referring to the commercial where you mentor your video game self ... What has Virtual Tim taught you about life?

Tim Lincecum: Heh. That the unbelievable can happen, that you can be a part of something you never thought you could be a part of. The right amount of doors appear and you put up the right amount of hands to open them, and you can be in a spot where you're very thankful for what you've got.

DB: What's the song in the car you switch off?

TL: I don't even know it.

DB: You've been asked that?

TL: Oh, yeah [laughs].

DB: Did you get to keep your motion-capture suit?

TL: No, I didn't. It was like this Spandex suit that has Velcro all over it. They had all kinds of different sizes — they had one that Shaq wore. That one was pretty big [laughs].

DB: Reading about a recent pregame meal of yours — from a start against the A's — it was a Choco Taco. Why not a Drumstick?

TL: Choco Taco was, like, my all-time favorite from growing up, summertime in Seattle when they had ice cream trucks going up and down the streets. The Choco Taco was always my first pick.

DB: If the ice cream man didn't have the Taco?

TL: I'm a big fan of the Push-Ups, but ... I don't remember what it's called, but it's red, white and blue and shaped like a rocket?

DB: The Bomb Pop?

TL: Yeah!

DB: How important is the right ice cream to your success?

TL: Umm [laughs]. I'm actually a mint chocolate chip guy, but those are really hard to find in Choco Tacos. I think any ice cream is pretty good, so ...

DB: Do you ever scrape your knuckles on the ground during a follow-through on a pitch?

TL: No. I don't follow through quite that far.

DB: But that's a true story about your dad putting the cash on the ground and you picking it up as part of the drill?

TL: Yeah, that's what I used to practice doing. It was just over-exaggerating it to get my mind to practice doing the right thing.

DB: Can you identify at all with Timmy from "South Park"?

TL: Yeah, definitely [laughs]. You've got [coach] Tim Flannery on the team too and every time I see him, every day, first thing he says is, "Timmeh! [gibberish] Timmeh!" We kind of just yell that back at each other. Ever since [the character] became popular, I definitely haven't heard the last of that.

DB: Regarding your youthful looks — As your fame has grown, have you been mistaken less and less for someone trying to impersonate a baseball player?

TL: Yeah, yeah. More and more. You start to see the same people coming in and out of the stadiums. People start to recognize you more than not. Especially in the NL West. You play those teams all the time. Yeah, I haven't run into as many ... how should I put it?

DB: Doubters?

TL: Yeah, not as many doubters as before.

DB: Before you were of age, did you not even bother with a fake ID because nobody would believe it anyway?

TL: There was no point in having a fake ID if I didn't have a [driver's] license. I wasn't even close to having a license until I was 18. When I got that, that was Step One for me.

DB: How come you didn't learn to drive when you were 16?

TL: Mmm, my parents just wanted to wait until I was a senior [in high school].

DB: When was your most recent haircut?

TL: December.

DB: When it gets this long, does it seem like two Decembers ago?

TL: No, not really. I've had the long hair the last couple of years. It's not, like, growing tremendously fast.

DB: What would you say if a retailer stepped forward to ask you to start your own line of "Timmy" stocking caps?

TL: I think I'd be down for that. But that time hasn't come yet. Call my agent [laughs].

DB: Did you secretly bury something in the Busch Stadium pitcher's mound last night just to see if it's still there in two weeks when you come back for the All-Star Game?

TL: No [laughs]. I didn't want to presume anything. It would be nice, though, to step on the field and be at the actual All-Star Game this year. Everything that happened to me last year was great, but I'd like to take a step up this year and maybe get in the game.

DB: If you were a pharaoh and I entombed you, what personal objects would you want buried with you to take to the afterlife?

TL: I'd have to take my Xbox 360, some Dinty Moore canned stew and ... I don't even know.

DB: Glove and ball?

TL: Maybe. Maybe a cap.

DB: A skull cap! ... Are you any closer to purchasing that Henry Rosinbagger jersey, the one the kid from "Rookie of the Year" wore?

TL: No. I'd still like to have one and it would be funny for the sake of the movie, but to wear a Cubs jersey? No. I'd have to change the Cubs logo to San Francisco.

DB: If you woke up tomorrow trapped in a TV show for the rest of your life, who would you be?

TL: Someone from "Family Guy." I'd like to be my own character, though. Not someone who was already on the show, but a new guy.

DB: Yourself? A character with your traits?

TL: Yeah, if they could make that happen, it would be great.

DB: Is Lou Seal a boy or a girl?

TL: I don't know. If I had to guess, a boy.

DB: Shouldn't every major league city have a Space Needle like you do in your hometown?

TL: No, because it just makes Seattle ... and I think up in Toronto they have such a Needle (the CN Tower) but it makes it unique to those places. There's not a lot of them and, kind of like how the Arch is to St. Louis, the Space Needle is to us.

DB: Why do you wear No. 55?

TL: It was given to me.

DB: Your dad has been so instrumental in the development of your delivery. Not as helpful on the batting swing?

TL: No, my dad helped me with my batting swing too. I just don't see enough pitches. I took a number of years off — I didn't get to hit in college — so, for getting caught up in at-bats compared to everyone else, I think I'm doing OK.

DB: Your father has been quoted as saying you have the best fastball since Bob Gibson and Bob Feller and the best breaking pitch since Sandy Koufax. It must have been tough, huh, growing up without any positive reinforcement?

TL: Ha! At the same time, my dad is obviously biased — I am his son — so you've got to take that into consideration. But who doesn't want to believe their kid is amazing? I'm going to be hoping the same thing for my kid when I get older. What better feeling can parents have than when they brag about their own kids?

DB: You were singing "Come Fly with Me" a little bit in the clubhouse before. You seemed to be stuck on the chorus. Does that happen to you, where you get a song stuck in your head and you have to sing it out?

TL: Yeah. I was only singing it because it was playing earlier. I blurt out things, you know? It's almost like I don't even know I'm doing it. It's kind of involuntary.

He also said that he took offense at it too, when it first happened. I myself didn't like it, and I read where a lot of the Giants didn't like it either although not many would go on the record about it for whatever reason. I think some Brewers are gonna get knocked down at the plate when the Giants face them next spring training, especially Fatso Fielder.

Andrew Baggarly of the SJ Mercury News did an interview with Timmy today. They mostly just talked about his back injury. This is from the "Extra Baggs" blog:

Just talked to Tim Lincecum. He said his back tightened up on the flight Sunday night from Milwaukee. He hoped to start as late as 3:30 Tuesday before trainers told him to back off. He is on muscle relaxers and sleeping better. Feels good enough to play light catch today if they will let him. Had back issues in high school and says they crop up from time to time, but it is no different from the occasional spasm someone would get from sitting in an office chair. Said he really is not too concerned. Very encouraged by the progression in the last 48 hours. Will listen to trainers and hid body, but if thr progression continues, he sees no reason he cannot pitch Monday, or earlier. Thought Bumgarner was awesome and envied his swing.

Q: How are you feeling today?
A: I feel better than I did yesterday, and yesterday was a big step because coming off that plane, I just must’ve not slept right. It was a long flight. I don’t know if that’s an excuse, but I woke up and just didn’t feel right. My back was tightening up on the lower left side. So I came the next day to get treatment. Over the night I didn’t sleep well at all. It just kept getting tighter. It was spasms in my back, I guess that’s what you’d call them. Not a shooting, pain, but a sharp, sharp pain. It felt like my back and my butt were tightening up, so I came in to get more treatment yesterday up the (wazoo) and just trying to get back to feeling normal. I feel I’m getting closer and closer.

Q: Ever dealt with a back issue before?
A: Yeah, I dealt with this in high school would go four innings sometimes because my back was so bad. I’ve dealt with lower back pain before. It’s not something I’m unfamiliar with. You just gotta approach it with caution.

Q: People will say it’s because of your size, your mechanics, your pitch counts, etc.
A: They’re always looking for a reason why. Some people just get back stiffness. It just happens. Like, people that sit in computer chairs all day.

Q: Confident you’ll be able to return by Monday?
A: I’m pretty confident. The progression’s been good and they’ll keep treating it until I feel completely normal. They’re just getting the inflammation down, using muscle relaxers to help it calm down. I just let them know how I feel.

Q: When will you pick up a baseball?
A: I feel pretty good today to just play light catch but that’s up to them. It’s one of those things that will feel better before it actually fully heals. I slept a lot better last night. Relaxers help you get tired, too.

Q: Your thoughts on Madison Bumgarner’s debut?
A: He did awesome, with the kind of stuff he’s got and the poise he holds out there. It’s like he’s pitching to the guys in San Jose again. You’re watching film and his mannerisms are the same. He doesn’t get panicked out there. He keeps his cool and pitches his game. And especially, that swing is something to watch. I thought `jeez, he almost got that.’ If that thing wasn’t topspun it would’ve gone.
They said in high school he just raked. It’s like, `oh, sorry about it.’ I haven’t hit a home run in my whole life, at least, out of a park. I still can’t hit a home run with myself in the video game.

Q: Hard for you to sit out Tuesday?
A: Yeah definitely. You try to take the right steps toward getting better, and had this happened a little earlier maybe it would’ve cleared up. But it happened right before my start. But Bumgarner, like I said, came in and did a bang-up job.

Q: Important for you to pitch against the Rockies?
A: Any game right now is to catch up. You never want to be in that situation you want another team to lose.

Q: Everyone is worried. Are you?
A: No, I feel fine. With the steps my back has taken these last 48-60 hours or so, my back has gotten better progressively. I don’t see why I can’t make it out there in a few days. But we’re taking the right steps. No need to push it right now.

Q: What was your reaction to Prince Fielder’s choreographed home run celebration on Sunday? (Asked by a reporter doing a feature on that…)
A: I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that in baseball. I’ve seen it in “The Replacements,” the football movie, but that’s the first time I’ve seen it on a baseball field. It was well choreographed, very original. I don’t know, in the moment it kind of bugs you to see that happen. I’m sure they think it’s all in good fun. At the moment I did (take offense), but they’ll do what they’re going to do and you just fight your battles.

Lincecum also said they didn’t make the call to abort his start until 3:30 p.m. and he didn’t even attempt to throw, or mimic his delivery. He said he throws his bullpens two days before his start, as opposed to two days after it, so he wouldn’t have to get on a mound for a couple days still.

“It’s hard for me,” he said. “I have boundless energy and I want to move around. I want to pitch right now. I’ve just gotta take it easy.”

Finally, a note for conspiracy theorists: Bruce Bochy found the speculation ridiculous that the Giants faked this injury to push back Lincecum so he could face the Dodgers and Rockies. And he’s absolutely right. Come on, people. If you’ve gotta exercise your imagination, stick to staged moon landings and grassy knolls.

I hAve met the girl timmy is dating and she was very rude! I dint even know who she was and she was BRAGGInG about who she is seeing. I was in the clubhouse and she was a total bitch. First off I would ne'er want to be with someone who obviously is only into me because my money and/ or job . She is dating him for all the wrong reasons. And I have read all the other posts on here and they saythe same thing that they met her she is very rude and def not cute like players gf are normally gorgeous! But this one.. What the hell? I know a few of the team mates who think she is a bitch and they say she is mutching of Timmy. I have never met him but I wish he knew what she was like whn he is not around. She makes him look REALLY BAD. People get impressions from gf/ bf friends whatever. She was the snottiest gal I had ever met. He needs a hott blonde girl that hasn't been with another ballplayer. I'm sure she has if she wants the status
