It can be a very negative thing for some people.  It's supposedly not addictive, but I've known people who are definitely addicted.  Like, have to have it when they get up in the morning, smell of dope all day, walk around with glassy and red eyes.  And they are unmotivated.  I also know a couple of people who stopped smoking because it was making them lose their edge.  They quit going to school, lost jobs, etc.  Just felt very lazy and didn't want to do anything but smoke dope, and that's what made them stop smoking.  I'm not saying all people have that happen.  It's similar to booze -- most can do it recreationally, but another group becomes alcoholics.  They can't function, drive drunk, lose jobs, lose their families, etc.  Have to have it every day, from the time they get up.  No, it's not good to spend every day of your life chemically altered on anything.  Almost all drugs come from plants.  That doesn't make them good for anyone when they're used excessively.  Oh, yeah, and smoke from anything, even candles and incense, is bad for your lungs if you're exposed too much.

Your not a serious baseball fan. It isn't about marijuana. It's about being so disappointed in the best young talent in MLB in quite sometime. He's got legendary stuff. We expect more than the ordinary from Tim. Much more.

"He needs to not be so self-destructive."

Again...the ignorance of people regarding marijuana is disturbing and that ignorance is why this PLANT isn't legal when it really should be.

He was really dumb to leave it in his car, so I think he deserved to be caught and deal with the bad publicity.  He was also speeding quite a few miles over the speed limit, or he wouldn't have gotten caught in the first place.  We all have to deal with consequences, his shouldn't be any smaller or bigger than the rest of us.  Why would anyone leave that in the front seat console of his car?  It's almost like he wanted to get caught.  He could have left it in the trunk.  It's like alcohol -- you can leave it in the trunk only, but even a closed bottle in the passenger compartment can get you a serious fine.  I'm sure Tim knows all those things.  He needs to not be so self-destructive.  Now that he's done it once, he'll have more serious consequences if caught again, so I hope he learns from this.  I like him very much, and I have mixed feelings about pot. I don't think anyone should do jail for it or that it's a "hard" drug, but have known too many people in life that become laidback dopeheads if they smoke too much too often, and I don't want Tim to become that, because he will lose his pitching form.  I hope he keeps his "habit" to mainly the off-season.

I think MLB should wake up and have a drug policy for things besides steroids.  These guys get paid too much money to abuse recreational drugs if they choose to do it during the season.  I don't care if it's beer or pot, they need to be totally sober before and during games, including not partying too much the night before,  to perform for the millions they make and to keep the fans happy.

Good for you Brandon. Which dream would that be since you know him so well? Excuses excuses. Opening ones mind? Get real. He doesn't have my hall of fame ballot vote. Legends are the footsteps he's walking in right now and his behavior is disgraceful.

listen. all you douches on tim's back about a little pot.  tell me you didnt try it a couple of times, try and tell me that.  tim was a good kid in highschool, got good grades.  He was and IS in no way a druggie like a lot of people labling him.  He was my highschool friend, and drivers ed buddy.  He probably was just trying it out once after highschool and happened to get caught.  You gotta realize he's 24 years old, how many of you smoked pot in your 20's?   get off his back, he is living his dream, and is far more successful than any of you were at that age, so who are you to judge??

yeah seriously a hallucinogen? ok...then alcohol is even more of a hallucinogen because it impairs you far more than smoking a little marijuana...some of the greatest minds and most creative people out there (artists, musicians, philosophers) smoke as a way to open their minds...you've got to be crazy trying to chastise people for smoking

Do people on here know how many ADULTS in sf smoke pot? Adults with jobs and kids. And they're great parents and work hard and come home and spark a joint when the kids are asleep and everything is taken care of. Smoking tabacco is way worse for you and alot of players smoke, but people dont bitch about that though do they? Is alcohol not a drug also? You all drink. Brian Wilson, Barry Zito, Tim, Posey and all the rest of those guys smoke.. Not a big deal

Exactly. His first offense. Let's not forget his major league hangover that cost the NL a win 2 allstar games ago.  He sucked opening day.He didn't finish well this year by any stretch and can't take the heat. Baseball is a family game! No one is saying that because tim smokes pot that all is young fans are. I have heard too many excuses being made regarding this future hall of famer. Drugs are for losers.

Lincecum pot charge dropped by DA in standard deal"

I know that this will be hard for some people to hear, but the above shows that "marijuana possession" is not a big deal to anyone, not even the legal system (especially if its his first offense).  Tim made some bad decisions - he was stupid - now he has to deal with the consequences.  This is the same for everyone in similar situations so. . . big deal.

This will have no effect with is contract reneg either.  I say at least $9M per year.

"Try telling a ten year old it's just weed no big deal!"

Teaching your children right from wrong is in the parents hands, not Tim Lincecum's, or any other ballplayer for that matter.   People can still look up to Tim for all he has accomplished and for being an amazing pitcher.  What he does in his personal life is not a ten year olds, their parents, or any of OUR business.

Timmy being caught with a thumb sized amount of a substance that is legal for medicinal purposes does not mean that any ten year old that hears it is going to run out and buy weed.  And if he/she does, then their parents better start within the home to teach their children what they think is right or wrong.

That being said, I dont care that he smokes pot in the off season.  Do I think he was a dumb ass for carrying it in his car?  Yes.  Do I think its a big deal?  No.

Leave the poor guy alone.  If he had never been caught with it, he would still smoke it, but none of us would know.  Does that make it and better?

Am I disappointed in Tim?  Sure.  But this will not effect his upcoming contract negotiations.  He's an awesome pitcher and the Giants need him.  And if the Giants don't want him any other team in the major leagues will be happy to take him off our hands.

"Marijuana possession" (to me) is a big deal, but he wasn't "driving impared," which shows at least a little bit of decent decision making.  This whole thing will put Tim in a more critical light (probably including stricter drug testing for him) - which I think he deserves - but he doesn't seem like the type to throw up his hands and say "f_ck 'em I'll do what I damn well please". . . Tim will work hard to get his reputation back.  This will be difficult for parents to explain to kids but, people are not perfect and they make mistakes, and I don't think this is a bad thing for kids to learn. . . they will have to decide on their own if they still want to be Lincecum fans.

I think the Giants will offer Tim at least $8M per year (for 3  years).  Tim is offered this much not because the Giants don't consider marijuana possession a crime or because they want to look the "other way", but because Tim is one of the best pitcher in baseball.

"Blaze" can hurl & beat dudes shooting up 'roids. Pot IS NOT a segue to heroin, crack, meth, etc....
Arbitration Pot=Timmy still gets the money from SF. Sad that SF doesn't pay the money to get the talent to support his great pitching. Oh well.....
Cy: The pot and pipe belonged to Cy. He was on the floor in the back seat.
Bad doggie!

*******It is a big deal! He is a cy young award winner and potential hall of famer. He will be judged by a different standard now all the way around. Pot is illegal last time I checked and his young fans know the difference between wrong and right. Try telling a ten year old it's just weed no big deal! He had better get his shit together! He's up for a big contract which isn't gonna happen now. All that money and talent but it isn't enough....what's wrong with being straight up.********** Recreational drug use is not punishable under Major League Baseball's current testing policy, although any type of drug conviction can lead to more frequent testing for performance enhancers. And he plays for SF which is one of, if not the most liberal place in the US of A. Pot is decriminalized in SF and that was voted by the people. Its not a big deal...

Its not suprising at all,  I just hope this doesn't tarnish his reputation.  Its not a big deal and a big deal should not be made out of it.  Its just pot, which should be legal anyway.

Who cares it is weed..  He could have been doing steroids like his former teamate Barry Bonds, he was just gonna blaze up a little and go chill on the couch.  I wonder if the police officer confiscated the cheetos he had in his front seat as evidence...
