Reply-to:Sid Hartman wrote in his article that Willingham is hitting .222 in the month of May. His homeruns are down, his RBIs are down from his numbers in April. Justin hitting a homerun isnt a miracle, fool. Drew Butera deserves good games. Dont watch games if you have no faith.

Well if Sid Hartman said that, it must be true. However, I look at his BA for the season, not for the month, and your post didn't state "for the month of May". It goes up and down after each game. So what if he isn't hitting as well in May as he did in April, it is still better than anyone else on the team. Who said Drew didn't deserve good games? He may be #1 right now but he hasn't played the entire season in the majors, so I discount him at this point until he proves he can do this on a regular basis. Even Casilla had a good game 2 days ago. Doesn't make him great and doesn't make me cringe everytime he bats.

Can I ask why you feel the need to be right? After I give my opinion how I have faith in Willingham, you find the need to say how his BA is down. Why? What are you trying to prove? I'm not trying to get anyone to feel the way I do. Just because I don't have faith in some players, now you are telling me to not watch. Why? I'm not telling you what to do. But I'm the fool because Justin got a lucky pitch and actually connected with the ball. Sorry, right now, I'm calling that a miracle. Ok. Thanks for the name calling AGAIN! Why can't people have a discussion with name-calling?

Reply-to:Justin hit a home run yesterday.

Miracles do happen from time to time. Even Joe has a homerun. Doesn't exactly instill faith for one great at bat. The day before Justin was 1 for 5, then he asks to be to put back in as DH the next day. That gives fans a lot of confidence. Right now, Drew Butera is ranked #1 on the team and has the highest batting average (but that was just because he had a good day yesterday). Dozier is #2 (like him too) and Willingham is 3rd and Joe is 6 with Morneau down at 9. Willingham's BA is .294, not .222.

Dear Joe Mauer,

If you really care about the Minnesota Twins organization, you will walk you $23 million butt up to the FO and have your contract restructured. We don't pay you that kind of $$$ to see you lead MLB in GIDP. We don't pay you that kind of $$$ to do 7 in 1 men's shampoo commercials. We paid you that money because we believed you were our future. Take a pay cutback, let the organization develop talent around you so you don't have to do everything by yourself. If you want your money back, earn it back like everybody else does. Start hitting .340 instead of .240. Turn your number of GIDPs into HRs. I hope you find it in your heart to do the right thing......

Anonymous (Rookie) wrote on Thu, 17 May 2012 17:50:22 GMT
his contract set the organization back 8 years,  he is no more than a solid 6 hole hitter in a good lineup and an avg to below avg catcher,  they would have been better off letting him walk

Reply-to:whats really sad is that joe is one of the better players for the twins right now. hes the least of their problems.

Exactly....Willingham is the only one I feel comfortable with when he gets up to bat. Reminds me of Joe during his MVP season. Pretty sad when out of the 9 batters only one gives us confidence. Now Morneau is back but he isn't doing anything either. I've lost faith in him too. Don't even get me started on the starting pitchers. Another frustrating season, but I still love the game and the Twins.

Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Wed, 16 May 2012 17:26:16 GMT

Yeah, it is all Maddie's fault. What an amazingly idiotic statement. Almost as good as the statement made about Joe possibly getting traded. If you were any kind of fan of Joe's or even baseball, you would know that Joe has an iron-clad, no trade clause in his contract. Also, even if Joe approved a trade, he wouldn't lose a penny. Players don't lose their contracts when they get traded. Joe will get paid $23 mil for the next 7 years whether you or anyone likes it or not.

It May me because of Joe's lack of focus and distraction (AKA Maddie) the girl is HIGH Maintenance. However, it is Joe's choice to let her be that much of a distraction. He hasn't played well since they started dating. From what I know she is very demanding. But again thats Joe's choice to risk his career for her. He may not be able to be traded but no one would pick him up at this point IF that was an option because of his contract amount and his current averages. He isn't producing the numbers he should be for the amount we are paying him. Which is a big deal on a MN budget.

yeah, but the twins won't be paying for it.

True, but it will never happen, at least not in the near future. The Pohlads can afford to increase the payroll, they just don't/won't. They are worth more than the Steinbrenners. As a Twins fan, though, I'm more proud of the World Series championships we got with small payroll, then all the WS wins that were "bought" by the Yankees. Something is wrong with the minor league system. Not getting the quality players we used to from them. Maybe we can blame Jake Mauer for that problem. Makes about as much sense as blaming Maddie for Joe's problems.

I was thinking the same thing but was hoping the whole thing would blow over. Guess too much to ask for, kind of like a Twins win. Oh that's right, it is stupid to be surprised by a win, guess we are supposed to be surprised by the losses. Guess what, surprise, they are losing again today.

the fact that anyone is entertaining this topic enough to argue about it is whats stupid...who cares what years they were bad in the past. They haven't played well in a while...Mauer hasn't been AMAZING since pre contract agreement ( thats not a knock against him, its pretty common for any major leaguer they always play better when they are trying to impress to get a bigger contract deal)

Yes, we made it to the playoff's but all the years of not making post season doesn't wash out with the few post season years especially now that we are paying our players so much.

That's not what she said so how do you know what "she" meant? Oh, you must be a mind-reader. Well I'm not. She could have clarified if there was a typo. She just said if we have been fans for 13 years which I know I have been (and a lot longer than that), the team was winning during those 13 years. Yep, during those 13 years team made post-season almost 1/2 the time. That's not what I call a losing team. Maybe she does. This was her argument that other comments were stupid. You are giving Joe too much credit. In my opinion. Yes, he is nice to look at but other qualities are important too. Personality?! And how many posters have we heard from commenting on his lack of social skills... awkward on dates to the point there very often is not a second date. Let's be honest here, Joe is not the sharpest tool in the shed. All things to consider when looking long term.

Maddie grew up in a family that puts a premium on wealth and status. Without that contract and "Hometown Hero" notoriety she would not have given Joe the time of day.

These two deserve each other.

Joe is marrying a hometown girl.  She isn't a beauty queen, movie starlet or model.   And marrying him only for his money is insane..I mean..look at Joe..he could be broke and get girls.

Game over, Joe is already practically married and nothing matters except that he hits the ball in the gaps and the Twins win more games.   Winning is way more fun than losing.

Reply-to:I still think that there is something not quite right about this relationship. Like everyone was saying about how rushed it seems as they only dated for a year. Dont forget that he was in Florida for a good part of that year too between spring training and his rehab assignment. So that makes it even less time that they actually spent together. Also, Joe seems like he is very image conscious and cares what others think of him. His reputation is still pretty good, even after last year. So why would he be with someone who has such a bad reputation? She obviously has made quite a few enemies and isnt thought highly of. His being with her doesnt make him look good at all.

Why are you so hung up on this? Who cares, besides you, about this? Do you have some insight? This has been discussed and others have given their opinion. Some feel it is rushed, others don't. Big deal. It is done. This is a fact. Either you can accept it and move on with your life, or you can continue to dwell on it for hours on end. My opinion, the horse is dead.

most people don't know or care about her reputation or stories that are posted on these boards. the only info released about her to the general public is that she's a nurse and went to high school with him. also, most players date models. would you rather he date a playboy playmate like evan longoria is right now? because settling down with a hometown girl fits right joe's image, imo.

It seems that any time anybody posts anything about Maddie, whether it's  a picture, something fun, etc, people start getting nasty. And I'd be willing to bet it's only 1 or 2 people starting crap.

Completely agree. They just can't over the fact that Joe picked Maddie. His choice, his life. Wish them well, or don't, but move on.

Reply-to:Not obsessive, just a hater. Did you notice all the fun banters of who is marrying Joe turns to hate in one fell swoop? Sad to be so jealous that their nastiness has to ruin some fun. Just couldnt keep her mouth shut once. What a sad person. Almost feel sorry for her.
