Spring training batting average means absolutely nothing. He had 22 at bats and that is such a small sample size that no statistical conclusions can be drawn.

He is now in his early/mid thirties. Because of the nature of the sport, hand / eye / reflex interaction diminishes with age - markedly so for ball players. That is why so many are drafted out of high school rather than after college.

So to draw the conclusion that he was on roids is not steeped in sensibility. MLB issues unannounced random drug tests. Someone of Youk's stature and his time at the MLB level (eight years, I think) - it is unlikely the guy would be so stupid as to do roids. I personally dislike Youk but he plays the game well and I would be surprised if he were to compromise his sportsmanship / ethics by using roids.

I will put my baseball knowledge up against anyone's at any time. Not only do I understand the game, but I know the stats of players right off the top of my head and when someone says "this guy sucks or whatever" I can answer them intelligently. I know the game of baseball.

You may think he is a legend but to me, Youk is not a legend. Good player? Absolutely. Outstanding player? Sure. Most of the time. Real real bad personality - particularly in the clubhouse? - uh yes yes yes. These are facts. Read Callahan's column in the Herald from a few days ago about Youk's interview on the Dennis and Callahan Show. Calling people names. Wishing they would die. Yeah - your credibility went right out the window. Accusing people of being NYY fans because their opinion is different than yours. Yeah. Whatever.

It's not my choice as to whether I know him or not. We met him when he was in the lower minors. He is friends with my husband. Whenever he came over, I tried to make myself as scarce as can be.

Nobody is beautiful or ugly physically, it depends on who's doing the appreciation.

I sure as hell am not jealous. My husband and I have known him for years. He's ugly inside and out. Take our word for it. He is not nice to fans and a lot of people know this. He treats women very poorly. I'm surprised his mother or grandmothers haven't smacked him on the rear end for this.

I have never liked Youk. He is well known for being mean to fans and he thinks women are second class citizens and treats them as such. I have known him for close to eight years.

BUT I rather doubt the rest of the story. My season ticket seat is in the first row right next to the Red Sox on deck circle. They NEVER look at anyone when loosening up. They are watching the pitcher and swinging the bat according to the pitches - even though the guy is still on deck. They're watching the pitcher's stuff.

I have gone to at least thirty games this year alone ... and I received a little nod from Pedey once but that's it. Red Sox fans would f-r-e-a-k if our players were looking in the stands and smiling at people. We want to win the World Series. We don't want them socializing with the audience while on deck.

And Big Papi never ever ever ever ever looks at the fans while on deck. People are flashing photos of him. People are clapping because he is on deck but he is focused on getting up to bat.

It's just a game and fun to us but to them, it's their job.

And the fans don't pay the salaries of the players. John Henry does. That's how Youk gets away with the bad behavior. As far as Sox fans go - just get us another pennant.

Engaged for more than a year, the Sox first baseman and his fiancee, Enza Sambataro, finally made it official in front of 120 family members and friends on a beach in Cabo San Lucas, where the couple will also honeymoon. We're told the guest list included a couple of Youk's teammates - Mike Lowell, Big Papi, and Dustin Pedroia, among others - and a few VIP friends such as sitcom star Mike O'Malley and one of the Wahlberg boys. Enza, who briefly dated Ben Affleck back in the day, wore Vera Wang. (Youk favors sweatpants, but we trust he cleaned up for this occasion.) It's Enza's second marriage and the first for Youkilis, who'll turn 30 in March.

A Newton native and former BC student, Sambataro is the CEO of Youk's charity Hits for Kids, which raised $1 million last year for children's charities and medical research programs in New England and Cincinnati. The couple will spend the offseason in Arizona, where Youkilis is again working out at the Athletes Performance Institute. Before then, the bride and groom will host a "Family Feud"-like fund-raiser Nov. 29 at Mohegan Sun. Mazel tov.
