That at bat in the 9th was vintage Punto.  Leadoff walk in a tight game and he lets the guy off the hook with two failed bunt attempts.  And then he waves at a pitch out of the strike zone for the three pitch K.  Screw this guy.  I hated him when he was on the Twins and I am glad he is gone!!  IN your face Gardenhire!!!

Punto has a deadfish arm, no range and flops in the dirt like a fish out of water at every base and at every ball hit his way. Gardy digs it when LNP gets dirty and needs to go to the showers.

punto is the absolute worst. I know he's decent in the field, but his complete and utter inability to get a hit (especially when we need it) is unbelievable. I hate him. I hate Tolbert almost as much, but the fact that we gave punto an extension in the off season means he's the worst...

The problem is that it doesn't work that way.  Shitty fielders can practice fielding and see generally see marked improvement if enough time is put in, for shitty hitters like Punto, hard work doesn't always translate into improvement in the hitting department.  I have no doubt he is a hard worker--you can tell by the way he bruises his ribs diving into first base only to be called out--but he does  not belong in the major leagues.  His only saving grace is as a utility player and the fact that he can play at least an average level defense at several positions.  The 8million they spent on him is like flushing it down the toilet.  I have no doubt there are younger guys with more offensive potential that could play 2b & SS well and cost about $400,000 a year.  The only reason the Twins have him is because Gardenhire was a shitty player who worked hard and loves to see Punto go out there and hustle.  His defense has not been great this year and without great defense he is the worst player in baseball.

He's had 1 good week this year. The Twins keep him around for his defense, but now he's been dropping throws from the outfield, and short hopping his throws to 1st and to home. Giambi would have been out at home last night, had he not bounced the throw to Redman. Trade Cuddyer and Lamb for someone who can play major league baseball!!
