Boggles my mind the way fans react to Tim's bad outings. It's like THEY write those million dollar checks he gets... He's getting farther in to the game before things go bad, so that's encouraging to me. Next start he'll work it all out.

I agree with you 100%, BCB!  It disgusts me to see all these "fans"/media pundits/bloggers, etc. tear Timmy apart.  I can't believe how many fair-weathered people are there.  I will support Timmy through thick and thin.  He needs our support more than ever not just when he's winning.  I can't believe how many people are bashing him, in general.  Those are the bandwagoners/posers who probably only became a fan after the World Series win.
Reply-to:A fan in my opinion supports the team and or pitcher in good times and in bad times and just doesnt jump ship at the first signs of trouble...The nay sayers out there will be right back on the Timmy band wagon once he starts pitching amazingly again...which is very sad if you ask me if you cant support Tim now when he needs it the most...Dont support him when he gets hot again

Yes, it's awful, I noticed the same thing.  Male fans seem to be so pissed because he's ruining their "fantasy" leagues, uuggh get a life.  People are awful.  The internet gives people the freedom to trash others and it's not right.  I think Tim should shut down the Twitter.  He never posts anyway and it just gives another outlet to these losers who feel they have a right to be so nasty. I'm not saying Tim's not capable of taking criticism and that no one should say anything constructive about how to improve his game. I just think that Twitter opens up the gates to every moron who thinks they have a right to bash.

Reply-to:that fn b.s. the giants are a well put together team this year. yeah timmy is just horrible compsred to what we all know he can do, but the rest of the team is pretty good. melky has been crushing the ball and the giants this road trip have too. the giants are good, better this year offensively than they were last year. we can do good things this year and if tim can get together (you never know), then the giants will be one of the top teams in the nl to beat.

RE: Melky, he got a world series ring in 2010 with the Yankees and is getting better every year. All the announcers call him the Milk Man he even has that on the bottoms of his cleets they were desgined that way! As the announcer would always say about him! "The Milk Man delivered". You guys should call him that, it would make him happy & break him in to his new fan base! & make him feel more at home At SF!

This stuff has to be taken a beating on Tim's psyche my heart goes out to him!!

So Tim's struggle continues, but read Baggerly's article post-game. He has some good insights. Tim is working out his difficulties. He is improving with each outing. He has had struggles time to time in the past and he works them out. He is no less frustrated by struggling than anybody else is, but it is all in a media heavy eye too. He will get it back. As we all love, he is unique and does what he does his way. -TRC

Timmy looks healthier than he did in 2010. But anyway, during the after show they were talking about how Timmy doesn't like running and he got away without running a lot earlier in his career. Maybe his body has changed and that running is something he needs now.

There's still alot of us who are good, loyal fans who are not part of the club who left the board, which sucks. Just sayin.... We should be all in or nothing.

I never thought I would say this, but my Love of the San Francisco Giants as a team is much greater than the love I have for any individual player.

I think its time to trade him, he is a 2 time cy young winner and a world series MVP. Its been real.

Don't get me wrong....love timmy to death- but he's not the player he used to be, meaning there won't be any winning seasons coming his way, let alone another championship. The giants SUCK now....they're a total joke for the western side of the MLB, even the dodgers are looking better now (and they've been rusty for quite some time). It was somewhat endearing when the scrappy SF team did so well a couple years ago....now they're just bad, and still scrappy as hell.....

Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Sat, 26 May 2012 01:38:52 GMT
well I see it as the reason they kept zito was because he was tied to a contract that no one would want to pick up, so they giants were stuck with him. but tims contract isnt as huge and his is over after the 2013 season, so if another team traded for him and then if he sucked there they wouldnt have him for too long. And teams would want him just for the marketing aspect alone. Reply-to:Well on the positive side it looks like he is improving. He got through the 4TH inning curse. I dont see any reason to trade him yet. He is still a money maker for the Giants.

I just hope what mitch williams said before the seaasons starts doesnt come true, because its sounds like a possibel idea now. mitch williams said that the giants need a shortstop and they would trade timmy to the rockies for tuolowitzski.

Good Morning,

My only comment today is lets all of us send positive vibes to Tim and the Giants today. Tim is over due for a good win and hopefully the offense will score big like last night and help him. We all love you Tim and wish you the best..

On another note ok I said only one comment but have to say this what do you girls think of Marlins Park??  It seems more like a amuzement park to me with the swimming pool and that fish carosel that spins when a home run is made I was expecting so much more the way the annoucers were talking but maybe thats a Miami thing. I personally think AT&T park is way better as a Baseball Park..

(& how his misses that fiesty pitcher and he wants him to come back! You guys will know, and I can't figure if Tim was talking to Dave Rigetti or to Jimmy Rollins! It will take you guys 2 seconds to figure it out & I would so much appreciate it. I am having some blonde moments!!

D Street house was bought by a "normal", i.e. not famous, not Tim, couple. They are refurbishing it extensively and plan to make it their family home for themselves and their kids far into the future. Source: my best friend, who lives very near the house on D Street and now knows the couple as soon-to-be-neighbors. They're living in a virtual shoebox close-by while they work on the refurbishing. Don't care if you don't believe me. It's still true.

agreed. like you guys said...look at this board when he isn't publicly dating anyone. it's crazy. if he ever does come out with a real girlfriend, we can expect about five posts a minute.
It could be, although I saw this brunette at the stadium too.. I cannot wait for something to come out in public if he has a real gf or not..

Reply-to:Not that I dont believe the post about the house being for Chris and his girlfriend... I just wonder why Tim would buy a house down here for his dad, when he bought a house up in Seattle for the off season close to family. Doesnt make sense really, to me at least. Also, on the knbr segment that Chris did with Marty Laurie, Chris said that he only talks to Tim once every week or two. I would guess that if Chris lived close in Petaluma that they would talk more often. idk, just wondering about stuff.

ok. I thought that Timmy's Dad was just acting Macho not like so hands on... he probably talks to him X1 or twice a week, Timmy's Dad was acting cool (like Father like son )! but was just down playing it a little bit! But like us, Chris didn't appreciate anyone kicking Timmy when he was down! I think what he meant was that Tim had gained the weight (195) and know is back to 165 so it was an ajustment to his body and his velocity mass index! But like Marty Laurie & Tim's Dad said, Timmy is a big part of the reason why SF got their rings! Let' see what happens tomorrow! Wishing Timmy Nothing But the Best!!!

Also, if the house is for tim and not his dad, I also wonder if Tim would live outside the city again during the season. In that book Freak Season, it said that when tim lived in Sausalito that he didn't like the 30 min commute which was why he moved back into the city. Petaluma is like an hour commute, right? that would get really tiring driving every day they have a game at home.

Fans get very emotional especially when their team loses.  I know I do and Fans have to blame someone and when they win its cool thats just the way it goes. If a team is losing they are going to hear about it and blame pitching, offense whatever.  We as fans expect nothing but best especially since we are paying for it with higher ticket prices, merchandise, food. Not to mention we want to brag about our team. We can't do that if we are losing so we have to vent. The Players know when they are not producing and even admit it. We still support the team but we would also like to brag but can't do that we are losing most of the time. In Zitos case that was mean but alot of us in SF me included think its such a waste of millions  since he hasn't produce as expected but when he was an Oakland A he won a CY Young Award go figure... all that money being tied up to him  kept us from getting a power hitter to help us and the pitching. When you read trade Tim or hes no good  its bend out of frustration and of course we love Tim. Sometimes they just need a wake up call as harsh as it is. Let's face it we will never have a year like 2010 with all the players etc. but when you win a World Series and then the next year your considered one of the worse teams it hurts and rightfully so. All of us SUPPORT THE GIANTS heck we still sell out all of our games win or lose. Lets just hope they get with it and catch up with the Dodgers and start winning...

y-to:I am a huge SF Giants fan. I support all the players through the good and bad. So sad to see the fans reacting so harshly and negatively about Tim. It saddens me. When we visited SF last year for a 3 game series, we were watching batting practice from the left field wall. When Zito came out to shag balls, these two fans start heckling him and calling him names and making fun of him. I was shocked. This was my first trip there and I had never experienced anything like that before. So, I yelled even louder than the hecklers hey Barry welcome back, love your socks! He was wearing black and orange argyle socks. Its bad enough a player is struggling and having to mentally repair himself and get back to an acceptable playing level. Dont tell me they just have to deal with it either just cause they are in a public arena. Doest matter, it is still emotionally damaging no matter what. Love to all the G-Men struggling or not!

Whoever made up that rumor has to live with the hideous lie that they made up! I am thinking for some reason that it was a guy! I can't imagine any of his girl fans saying something like that!! Not to be biased! & yes that lie was adding insult to injury! So hang in there Timmy! The worst is behind you!

in the dave rigetti article on timmy what did he mean in the NCLS game against the Philles in 2010 when he said Tim stranded Jimmy Rollins at the 3 rd base and then said "you stay right there" when Dave was saying what happened to that fiesty little Pitcher we knew? Was Tim Talking to Dave Rigetti? Sorry I am out of the Loop on that one! Think of how will be screaming and shouting with happiness if Tim makes a come back and wins his game tomorrow! Andy Petite of the Yankees retired in 2010 came back in 2012 and is pitching lights out at 39! 2 weeks ago pitched his best game ever! So Timmy will bounce back & when he does we will all be doing cartwheels and handstands! He's not even 28 yet! So he totally has time on his side!  About he rumor with the pain medication, I think someone just made that up out of thin air!

here is a cool article about the giants players who are compared to types of wine. hehe.

Wine and the World Series

October 22, 2010

Beer may be baseball’s mainstay beverage, but there’s room for wine in any fan’s hands as we edge closer and closer to the World Series.

In fact, the hard-charging San Francisco Giants roster begs for a comparison with a really good wine list.

Here’s how I see the line-up, through wine-tinted glasses:

Tim Lincecum

Tim Lincecum, the two-time Cy Young Award winner, is the ace on the Giants pitching staff, winning twice in post-season play with a l.69 ERA. Affectionately known as “the Freak,” with his long hair and slight build, Lincecum keeps hitters off-balance with sneaky speed and a tempting change-up that has baffled most opponents this year.

Giants Ace Tim Lincecum

Lincecum is like a top-drawer pinot noir, with a racy intrigue and tasty finish that’s hard to replicate. I’d look toward the Santa Lucia Highlands for a wine that matches the ace’s on-field performance. Something like the outrageously good Siduri Wines 2008 pinot noir fits the bill. It’s made from the legendary Garys’ Vineyard, located on the edge of the Salinas Valley. This is a big pinot, with luscious red cherry fruit that will improve over time, just like Lincecum.

Buster Posey

Although he’s originally from Georgia, a state where moonshine might be the drink of choice, clean-up hitter  Buster Posey honed his skills right here in Wine Country. The rookie spent time with both Fresno and San Jose in the Giants minor league system before joining the big league club in late May. The hard-hitting catcher and clean-up hitter has been a star ever since.

He’s an everyday hero who I’d compare to a big Napa Valley cabernet. Something with a track record of success like the Silver Oak Cellars 2005, a ready-to-drink selection with strong red fruit and a smooth finish that delivers great taste vintage-to-vintage.

Cody Ross

A hidden gem in the Giants lineup is the late-season addition of Cody Ross. The outfielder picked up on waivers late in the season from Florida Marlins and he quickly made his presence felt as the team’s unexpected hero. Ross swatted four post-season home runs and collected seven RBIs going into the fifth game of the Giants’ National League Championship Series with Philadelphia. Ross reminds me of a “little” wine that over-delivers on quality at a reasonable price. Like the McConnell Estate’s 2007 cabernet sauvignon ($15) from Lodi. This is a smooth customer, discovered at last weekend’s Lodi Wine Fest on Treasure Island, with just enough backbone to support the lively black fruit and currant flavors.

Brian Wilson

Brian Wilson is the madman of the Giants bullpen. With a bushy beard dyed deep black, he’s responsible for the Giants battle cry “Fear the Beard” that pops up on homemade signs throughout AT&T Park in every game. I didn’t have a second thought when it came to a wine that reminded me of this gritty reliever. It’s the Prisoner, a zinfandel-based blend from Orin Swift that has been great every time I’ve tasted it. The 2007 Prisoner ($35) needs a bit of time to open up, and then it comes on like gangbusters with bowl-you-over blackberry fruit and rich tannins.

Aubrey Huff

First baseman Aubrey Huff is a 10-year veteran who played for Tampa Bay and Baltimore before coming to San Francisco in 2009. He was a solid contributor down the stretch for the Giants, collecting 86 RBIs and 26 homeruns in the regular season. I’d compare him to a high-toned merlot, not too flashy but built on solid fundamentals.

Two merlots I recently tasted from the an up-and-coming district in Napa come closest to matching Huff’s intensity. I enjoyed the Silverado Mount George 2006 merlot ($50) and the Coho 2006 merlot from the Michael Black Vineyard ($55), both tasted earlier this month in a Coombsville District tasting event.

Pat Burrell

Outfielder Pat Burrell played for the Phillies for eight seasons before defecting to Tampa last year and then joining the Giants for the 2010 campaign. He’s another acquisition who has brought power to the SF lineup, slugging 20 homes runs and collecting 56 RBIs this season.

I’d compare Burrell’s performance to a powerful but smooth-sipping syrah, like the excellent 2006 Zio Tony Ranch ($75) from Martinelli Winery in Sonoma.

Freddy Sanchez

Second baseman Freddy Sanchez has been with the Giants for two seasons after stints in Boston and Pittsburgh. He’s a good fielder and reliable singles hitter, who has hit over .290 in an SF uniform.

I’d match up Sanchez with an award-winning chardonnay with a great track record, like the Ridge Monte Bello chardonnay, an award-winning bottling from Ridge Vineyards, which is better known for its legendary Monte Bello cabernet. I got my first taste of the Ridge 2008 chardonnay ($65) a few weeks ago and I’m sold. It’s gold juice with tropical fruit and citrus overtones that counterbalance just the right touch of oak.

The wine will be officially released later this year. Only 250 cases were produced, so get yours quick or wait ’til next year.

Juan Uribe

Infielder Juan Uribe was the star of Game Four of the NLCS with an outstanding fielding play to stave off a Phillies rally and a walk-off fly ball that won Game 4 of the NLCS for the Giants. This was the hardest pick of the bunch, so I went with a personal favorite that’s reliable and inexpensive. I’m talking about the Don’s Lodi Red, an $8 blended red that contains carignane and syrah plus a dash of symphony — a flowery-tasting hybrid grape developed at UC-Davis. I buy this wine  — from Michael-David Vineyards — by the case and sometimes sneak it into blind tastings with higher-priced brands just to see the reaction when the price is revealed.

Andres Torres

Andres Torres always seems to be smiling and hustling, two characteristics that helped earn him the 2010 Willie Mac Award given to the most popular player on the Giants roster each year. He’s backed up that popularity with some key hitting (16 homers and 56 RBIS) that helped deliver the Giants to the doorstep of the World Series. He reminds me of a California sparkling wine, something that goes with any celebration, like the Gloria Ferrer VA de VI ($22), a non-vintage cuvee that’s pinot noir and chardonnay blended with a dollop of fruity muscat. Definitely a pick-me-up wine!

Pablo Sandoval

Pablo Sandoval, nicknamed “The Panda,” had an up-and-down season on offense and defense, but broke out of his batting slump in the playoffs with a key hit as a starter in Game 5 of the NLCS. He’s like a good bottle of everyday wine that you forget you had, like the Robert Mondavi  bottle of wine that you lost track of and, upon re-discovering it, found \that it was still enjoyable. Like the 2007 Robert Mondavi Napa Valley cabernet sauvignon ($28), an easy-to-enjoy dinner wine with a core of red fruits and complementary sweet oak.

Matt Cain

Matt Cain has been a solid performer on the mound all season and his success continues in the play-offs with just one run allowed in two games. He just keeps getting better and better with every outing, like one of my favorite daily-drinking chardonnays from Edna Valley. The 2008 Edna Valley chardonnay from Paragon Vineyards on  the Central Coast continues a long string of reliable vintages that feature tropical fruit tastes and a nice touch of oak.

Jonathan Sanchez

Jonathan Sanchez has pitched well enough to win in the post-season, but without enough offensive support to seal the deal. Still, he owns a 2.03 ERA and collected 18 strikeouts in two play-off appearances in which opposing batters managed just .149 against the lefthander.

I’d compare Sanchez to a zingy sauvignon blanc, like the wine made by Rochioli near Healdsburg. While Rochioli’s claim to fame is delicious pinot noir, it’s worst kept secret is the estate sauvignon blanc. With a $40 pricetag, this is high-class juice, but it’s so smooth with just the right touch of oak that it’s hard to resist. Join the winery’s waiting list (aveage wait to join is five years) to assure yourself of access to the future Rochioli offerings.

Madison Bumgarner

Madison Bumgarner is the Giants fourth starter. He won against Atlanta in the division series and then pitched well in game 4 of the NLCS against the Phillies, but left without earning a decision. He’s a 21-year-old, hard-throwing left-hander who’s got a long career ahead of him. I’d liken to one of the smaller, newer producers with a big future in Wine Country, like Urban Legend near Jack London Square which is making its reputation on out-of-the-ordinary varietals like its 2008 barbera ($25), a Cal-Ital wine made from grapes grown in Clarksburg. This round, red and delicious selection would complement pasta, pizza or grilled red meats.

There are some really negative things being said about Tim on the sports blogs.  Not nasty rumors like what was talked about here yesterday, but just things along the lines of "trade him, he's done, he's been fading for several years, I told you he was not going to last", even calling him "Lincebum."  Amazing how quickly the fans can turn so ugly.  It hurts me and I don't even live in San Francisco, I'm an East Coaster.  I hope Tim can overcome and not let this negativity get him down.  He seems to internalize so much and I worry about how he'll react to this negative behavior from the hometown fans.  Not saying that everyone in SF is turning against him, but the tide has definitely turned. Stay strong Tim!!!!

Also, you guys act as though its so crazy for an athlete to be addicted to a drug. How old are you all? So naive to think this sort of thing can't happen to ANYONE. I will say however,I hope its not true. But me being from California and all, nothing shocks me anymore.

to everyone saying that he's not pitching well because of his weight -- let's not forget, ladies...he won two cy young awards before he had that newfound @ss of his. not saying i didn't like it. he looked hot (but then again, he looks hot to me no matter what). our boy still has his stuff. it's just a matter of knowing how to execute it. he can make it out of this slump. remember that awful august a couple years back? he came out of it. granted, his slumps don't usually last this long, but we're not quite 1/3 through the season. i'm likely never going to lose confidence in him.

all pitchers are doing a little less than usual, cc, phil hughes even roy h. & cliff lee, not their perfect selves. Just out to slow starts probably like Timmy. Even with Timmy's falling a little short I read that that Yankees & Boston would go into a bidding war! They picked on AJ Burnett & he never snapped out of it with the Yankees (his first year he did great) but now is much better with the Pirates! I don't want that to happen to Timmy! So everyone should just stop picking on him! His Dad said it's his weight loss! Did you listen to the radio interview someone posted?

No mention of Timmy's addiction and struggling recovery of Oxycontin. Hmmm...

Heard from a guy, who heard from another guy, who heard from a MLB scout, that timmy's problem is that he got addicted to Oxy and they are now dealing with the aftermath. His head is screwed up and that's why he's been struggling. Management is trying to keep it under wraps.

Again... this is from a guy, who heard it from a guy, who heard it from a Scout. True? We may never know.

This is a total crock why are people saying this? Whoever said this is starting the rumor he has no proof or reliable sources, just a trouble maker! Timmy needs TLC, tough love is not going to cut it!

And I dont mean like them as in the term we used to the boys we had crushes on in grade school, Im talking about liking them as a player because theyre good. And, all Im saying about your comments and all the other negative ones are that THEYRE NOT GOING TO HELP HIM. Im simply stating a fact, not getting angry. You can say trade him trade him trade him! all you freaking want and its not going to make him pitch better for the Giants or maybe even another team. Sure, the negative comments are a matter of opinion but its annoying when people whine and moan about him not getting better and then they start saying negative things about him. Sometimes its like posters think saying negative things will help him but they just dont.

Now the pitching needs to improve or else we will see changes. We want to get back in the post season and if Tim or the others can't do it get people that can.

The KNBR chat fests are all speculation.  I remember when they were talking about how Matt Cain would be better off as a Yankee, blah blah blah.  Ultimately, Cain was locked down with a multi-year contract.  The Giants are not stupid to get rid of their big cash cow especially with all the money they make on merchandising.
Reply-to:the knbr postgame wrap up is making me so angry. theyre talking about trading lincecum, crawford, and belt for one good hitter. and theyre saying that the giants trading lincecum down the line is likely. its just talk, but its so darn discouraging.

Righeti on Timmy:

“Those days, I don’t want to say they’re gone, but … every day that’s behind you is gone,” Righetti said. “Your (past success) is where that inner confidence is built up. But you’ve got to live in the moment and deal with what you have at this point. And right now he doesn’t have that swagger he had before. He’s been kicked around a little bit.

“It happens to every single one of us. I don’t want him to just accept it. I want him to work hard, concentrate and don’t let it defeat him by any means. Keep working hard and we’ll find a way to get it done.”
