I think the cactus league trains in Arizona and the grapefruit league in Florida, rich has being on cactus league teams therefore he has lived in Arizona for the past preseasons. my guess is he is injured. it's probably his shoulder, which has a tear ever since his Oakland days. he probably doesn't want to aggravate it even more or let on to the powers that offer contracts to free agents that he's injured because both his worth and leverage to negotiate would decrease.

for starters, its not a stupid decision. if he got injured in this last week, his career could be over and it would be for nothing. he obviously wasnt feeling too great, otherwise he would have gone more than 3 or 4 innings in his last 2 outings and things would have only gotten worse. i think he made the right choice.

Two, it'd be surprising for him to be engaged to anyone he met in Chicago because it'd be a very fast engagement. Even if he met someone when he first arrived in Chicago, that'd mean he proposed to someone 14 months MAX after meeting.
