Last game prep of the year gang! I'm sorry it IS the last game of the season, and I'm sorry it's the second losing season in the Shanahan era. Like last week, there is plenty of bad news. But unlike last week, there is more good news I can share. I apologize for putting this story up later in the week than usual. I came across some surprising tidbits while studying the Vikings, and I'll share them with you below. Denver rushing Denver faces a tough rush defense in the cover-2 that MINN ru

Lesson learned. Never bet against Kurupt again. After picking against him twice in the Buffalo Rumblings Fantasy Football League playoffs, Kurupt for now has stormed through the post-season and claimed the title of Rumblings Fantasy Overlord by beating krukow's The Illegit McGahees in the championship game. Here's how Kurupt was able to pull it off: Kurupt for Now - Pos - The Illegit McGahees Kurt Warner (32.76) - QB - Tom Brady (19.7) T.J. Houshmandzadeh (8.5) - WR1 - Marques Colston (1.6)
Back in December last year I (foolishly) went public with a reading challenge for 2007 in which I declared I would read 50 books off my TBR pile. Over the past year I have read 65 books, but alas only 23 of them were from my 105-book TBR pile! Here's the results of my challenge:A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess A Fringe of Leaves by Patrick White A Long Shadow by Charles Todd A Passage to India by E.M. Forster American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis Amsterdam by Ian McEwan Arthur &
Here are my picks for week 17: 1) Carolina panthers -3 2) New England Patriots -13 3) Houston Texans -6.5 4) 6 point, 2 game teaser Washington Redskins -3 and San Diego Chargers -3. Patriots -13 at Giants The Giants have already lost RB Derrick Ward, TE Jeremy Shockey, and LB Mathias Kiwanuka to season ending injuries in recent weeks.  In my not so humble opinion, Ward was the most effective weapon in the backfield this season for an offense that relies heavily on the halfback.  Jeremy
This is the National Football League injury report for Week 17, as provided by the league. Dahlia Lithwick from Slate: This time last year, I offered up a top 10 list of the most appalling civil-liberties violations by the Bush administration in 2006. The grim truth is, not much has changed. The Bush administration continues to limit our basic freedoms, conceal its own worst behavior, and insist that it does all this in order to make us more free. In that spirit, it seemed an opportune moment to commemorate the administration’s worst legal justifications and arguments of the year.
12/20/1932 HCN Elizabeth Yeaman Universal is pushing plans rapidly to film a second picture starring Clyde Beatty and his wild animals. The first film starring the world’s most famous animal trainer, is just half completed and now Carl Laemmle Jr., has decided that a second animal feature should be made while Beatty and the animals are still on the lot. Scenes for the second picture are now being shot at the same time that The Big Cage is being filmed. The new picture will lay stress on the gro
It is the final week of the 2007 NFL season. The biggest fantasy football question is why do you have games in Week 17 when twelve of the best teams are ready to rest their key players in the hope that no one is hurt before the play-offs. The Steelers are sitting QB Ben Roethlisberger and his 32 TDs. I hope you're not counting on him. The Bucanneers have clinched a play-off spot and will sit 1,014-yard receiver Joey Galloway and rest mid-season PPR stud Earnest Graham ahead of the team's 1st ro
The Worcester Sharks, seemingly in control and possibly on their way to the franchises first shutout, were stunned by Gabe Gauthier's natural hat trick netting the Manchester Monarchs a 3-2 over time victory in front of 5,011 fans at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts Saturday night. The WorSharks got on the board first while on the power play when Dan Spang flipped a Kaspar pass on Monarchs netminder Erik Ersberg. Ersberg made the save, and a second save on Tomas Plihal, but Lukas Ka
Redskins at Seahawks The Redskins are hot right, after winning their last four games they have some serious momentum coming into the playoffs. The 'Skins have a strong running game and a stingy defense, and Todd Collins is playing at a high level and making good decisions The Seahawks are a team on a mission this year after having fallen short in years past. Matt Hasselbeck and the receivers have enough to make up for the lack of a run game, and Patrick Kerney and the defense are a force to be
Two recent news items in English football are resonating in my head. One was the sight of an ailing Sir Bobby Robson receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC's annual televised Sports Personality of the Year ceremony and the other was a typically calculated media plug by Dimitar Berbatov's agent on New Year's Eve. Sir Bobby, a player and coach of his country and a successful manager of Barcelona, PSV, Porto, Sporting Lisbon, Newcastle and Ipswich, looked frail and white-haired after

The end of the year is here and 2008 is knocking at the door. Let’s take a moment to remember some of the notable, and not so notable, people who passed away in 2007. This year I noticed several “connections” again and that just freaks me out. Two of the three famous Gallo brothers passed away within 12 days of each other. Lucille Ball’s brother and a writer who worked on all her shows died within a month of each other. Lanna Saunders and Edward Mallory, who played brother and sister on Days o

OK, I'm starting Todd Collins at QB. I picked up Santana Moss because Fitzgerald has been banged up and I wanted another option. Now I have Welker, Fitzgerald, Moss and Chris Henry. I need two. Then I picked up T.J. Duckett because a few of my backs got dinged last week. I have Gore, M. Lynch, B. Jacobs, A. Stecker, E. James F. Taylor and Duckett. I need three of them(OR all three receivers and two backs). Right now(which I'll probably change about 10 times until tomorrow's games) my line
Since Mitt Romney declined to tell the American people about *who he is* in his freebie airtime speech, I thought it would be prudent to post something here. I don’t do this out of anger. I do this out of concern for humanity. Now, please know that Ed Decker is not popular with Mormons. They spend enormous time and energy - in mass - working to discredit him and his truth.  It’s a whole lot of Mormons against one man- and many many x mormons.  I am one of them. I believe in Ed Decker, only bec
LnDnDsFormDefTypeYardsBriefO34110I-Ginn(?)NickelRun-1End-aroundSo last year Ohio State frequently lined up Ted Ginn just outside of the tackle or right end about five or six yards off the LOS. 90% of the time this was shotgun, and this was dubbed the “Shot-Ginn,” which is fine because jargon like that communicates complex ideas quickly. So OSU's first play is sort of that, except with Boeckman under center, Wells lining up in a standard tailback position, and Ray Small in the shot-ginn position
All you internet Homer Simpsons out there get your heads out Veronica Belmont's donuts, it's the BIG DOH REHAB here on the SEVENTH DAY OF SPIDERRIFFMAS Each contributor to the 12 DAYS OF SPIDERRIFFMAS was told: OK I'll let you jump on a record, but listen Kite Runner! You got 35 minutes max. Because I do not want no Bonfire of the Vanitas like last year. So the only rule was: Thou shalt not write more than 35 minutes--capito? Also if anybody knows what happened to my man Don Pollyanna get at
