Why do people like Jacqua?  I can't stand the guy!  He is lazy, can never make it to the ball, looks exhausted as he's going out on the field before he's even kicked the ball! - Not that there's much danger of that happening!   

And correct me if I'm wrong, but he hasn't had an MLS goal since OCTOBER 2009!  The owners and Sigi are idiots for keeping this guy, and for bringing him to the Sounders at all!  What's up with that?  I know Sigi coached Jacqua on at least one other team prior to the Sounders, so perhaps Jacqua is a has-been?  Maybe he WAS good?  But based on his Sounders' years, he's a NEVER-has-been, in my book!

I say, get rid of the guy!

Not so sweet!  No comment or public explanation from his side obviously means that it was not as simple as "sweet vindication". There were quite clearly other issues involved that the public are not aware of. Know your stuff before you comment.

A sexual battery civil lawsuit filed by a University of Oregon soccer player against Eugene-born pro soccer player Nate Jaqua has been settled with no exchange of money, attorneys for both parties said late Tuesday.


U.S. District Court Judge Ann Aiken dismissed Leigh Quinlan's lawsuit -- and a counterclaim by Jaqua -- on Tuesday after presiding over a Monday settlement conference in her Portland chambers.

Quinlan, now of Victoria, B.C., filed a $10 million sexual abuse lawsuit against Jaqua and several major league soccer organizations last June. In her complaint, she alleged that Jaqua "subjected her to a brutal, forcible sexual assault" after both left a bar near the UO campus the night of July 1, 2007.


Quinlan later dropped the soccer organizations from her complaint, but still sought more than $5 million in damages from Jaqua, a former South Eugene High School soccer star now playing for the Seattle Sounders.

Quinlan's attorney, Erin Olsen, and Jaqua's attorney, David Angeli, declined comment beyond identical statements that the suit was resolved "with no exchange of money" and that Quinlan "retains the right to continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement."

No criminal charges have been filed against Jaqua. He is the grandson of the late John Jaqua, a longtime Eugene philanthropist, civic leader and Nike board member.

In court documents filed last fall and in February, the 28-year-old Jaqua denied Quinlan's accusations.

He also filed a counterclaim accusing Quinlan of "falsely and maliciously" accusing him of forcible sexual intercourse in written and spoken comments "to various third parties." Jaqua sought at least $500,000 in damages, plus attorneys' fees.

There is nothing mindless about an accusation of rape. It is a horrible crime that no woman should ever have to be subjected to. Just because this guy has an image that suggests he is a great guy, does not make it so. He and his family are banking on the fact that the image that have cultivated will be enough to persuade the public not to look at this situation for what it really is. Just some rich guy trying to get away with crime. If you know something that would help this woman speak up because right now she is all alone in this fight-that must feel horrible.

The only way Jaqua scores is when someone bounces it off him, like last week when Ljungberg fought to get the ball and bounced it off Jaqua's foot for the goal.  Less than 6 yards out he still almost put it over the top!  If he's so dominant, why isn't he scoring with his head?  He is a good player, but too big and slow for a forward...maybe an outside mid.

I have known Nate for years and he is not capable of this crime. I think its a bit convenient that all this girl wants is money.

there's a college forum from some speculating that she's just using him as a scapegoat for her failure to keep up in college life.  it was very vague but people were saying that she would carelessly blow off class, the general concensus in  the thread seemed to be that she'd stopped going to class, but always seemed to be out and about working on her social life.

Maybe... or maybe not. The media reports say the girl alleging the sexual assault is credible - people who know her say she has a lot of integrity and was the perfect student and athlete - "a great kid". Certainly makes you wonder. I guess we will see.
What I'd like to know is why Nate isn't saying anything - as in, is his story that he didn't know the girl at all, or that he did meet her and walk her home and what she alleges was consensual. What is it Nate?
