Reply-to:Section 8 is locally controlled payments and housing. The city wants to get out of operating a housing group and place the responsibility on real estate housing groups like apartment complexes.

Yea, it's State level, controlled byGovernment too.

Reply-to:Its the governments control to protect the community and placing folks from public housing in good neighbors should be a no-go idea.

No, the local Police and if it get's out of hand, then the State and Government will intervene. You are Free to live where you want. Government housing is only located in certain places of city's , so i understand this. If you feel unsafe, i would consider other options, just friendly advice.

I am reading th eboards. It's just not within anyone's control, how other's conduct themselves. The Governments , local authority's are overwhelmed or preoccupied with so many National problems. Let's Hope everyone behaves themelves and have consideration for other's.

The city received a grant for this change and you might want to see if the public housing was razed for development? I'm interested to see this.

Well I can see why they would think that. The movement impacted all of us though. I see the kids at the bus stop in the morning. They are even feeling the tension. The culture shock on both sides of the issue are profound. If the true goal was unity the outcome was anything but. The person or persons that came up with the idea are educated and should have seen that this idea was going to have the opposite outcome then the desired. With that being the case then it sure seems like unity and equality was not the true motive for the movement and that there was a hidden agenda. One of my friends asked me if the division created more of a racial division among my neighbors. The truth is no it did not. It is an us against mentality between the homeowners and the section 8 apartment dwellers that has nothing to do with race. A few actually do not even blame the apartment dwellers but blame the city as they were the ones that implemented the change.

Some would argue that destroying your neighborhood's value and peace was the intent of the Obama policy.

I am seeing the effects that idea is having on the middle class first hand. I live in an older middle class neighborhood. Most of the homes are owner occupied and it is racially mixed. Most of us maintain our yards and homes and show pride in our homes.  There is an apartment complex at the end of my road. They remolded it last year as well as 2 houses on my block and turned them into mostly section 8. We have had a few shootings, one of which was right outside my bedroom. The stray bullets hit my neighbors kitchen. She has been trying to sell the house for a year and no one will even make an offer  because of all the trouble coming from the apartments and the 2 section 8 houses. I find trash and beer bottles in my yard everyday. My neighbors and I complain to each other all the time. We did not ask for our once peaceful area to become a dump. Our property value has gone down and no one can sell because no one wants to buy and move into a neighborhood that has drive by shootings. So not only did the idea that the poor would be inspired to change and live better the idea diminished the quality of life for the homeowners.

That was Obama's reasoning. Moving the poor into the middle class neighborhood would "inspire" the poor to do better. Instead it creates more frustration as many of the services that use to be nearby are gone (bus service) and being isolated in a new environment creates a "culture shock" that re-enforces known values and escalates aggression.

I think you are right. The area I was in is a historic district. I walk that street because of that and it is well lit. There is a 4 block section that is getting bad. I also noticed that they have torn down many of the low income housing and moved the residents into apartment buildings that are in middle class areas. What was once a nice area has now become an area to avoid. Such a sad mentality. I wish people could understand that violence and causing harm to others does not build self respect and does not make anyone else respect you. If you don't value yourself you can't value others and vise versa.

In Mexico the poor have developed a "Machismo" culture where the men assert themselves through violence. Think many poor cultures have developed this outlook.

That's horrible. Seems like there is more gunfight happening. You may want to find out if your area was chosen as a section 8 area. Obama had many of the low income public housing folks move out of the old housing into the middle class areas.

Hi friend. Hope you are well. I went for a walk Monday night. It was just starting to get dark. I was walking along when I heard gun shots a block away from where I was. I Hid behind some bushes in someones front yard and called 911. I could not see who was shooting but I saw 2 cars at a stoplight speed away. After 10 min or so I realized I still had a mile to walk home and it was getting darker. Called a friend so that I had someone to talk to as I walked home. Even though she is 2,000 miles away it made me feel safer. I was not walking in a bad area of town, but now I can see why I should not walk at night by myself. I wish we were free to do the things we enjoy without having to be concerned  about other people and there bad behaviors causing us harm. Why do people choose to solve their problems in that way? Anyway how are you doing?
