I can still remember it like it was yesterday. The last lap pass of Jay Sauter by Butch at the Glass City 300 at Toledo Speedway in 1994. What a move!!! The bump and run performed with the precision of a surgeon!!! He did not wait until turn 3 to make the move as most drivers do now. He got a good run down low off turn two from his favorite little dip in the racing surface, and touched the left rear of Jay's car no harder than you would have to push to close the refrigerator door as they prepared to enter turn three. Jay was forced to make a slight correction which opened the bottom groove. They ran side by side through the turn and to the finish line and Butch won by a foot or two. The stands went wild!!! It is my favorite memory of working on that team. Butch was ashamed of the victory when he climbed from the car, not sure how people would take it. He was, and probably still is a class act. But the fans loved it even if Jay didn't. Thanks for that memory Butch..... Your front tire changer.....until family responibilties saw me home.
