why do the 49ers insist on hampering their team? matt flynn is up for grabs, go make yourselves a super bowl contender, or else continue to get your asses kicked by the man you should've drafted 1st over all, aaron rogers..

LEta get real Alex smith was the product of a good system this year he had a good running game,a good tight end and mediocre wide receiver in which none could catch a damn pass in the clutch a lot Of the niners success was in benefit of that scary defense. Moral to the story is smith will get you to the playoffs maybe but he will definitely will not get you to the superbowl as you saw in the NFC NFC championship game in which he could not come up with a big first down over and over again.

Also, have you seen some of his receivers, like Mister hold out himself Crabtree, drop perfectly thrown passes when he should of caught them? I am not sure if you watch the games like you claim you do. If you did you would see that this year (and this is the year that matters) Smith is a lot better than he has been and he really hasn't overthrown/miss-thrown the ball as much as in previous seasons.

To the last poster. Yes Garcia was underrated, I think he was one of the better QB's in the league and on the 49ers. Now about the 49ers not being able to win with Smith. A lot said they wouldn't win the division, every one said they would lose to the Saints, but look what happened. I want to point out to you the 2000 Baltimore Ravens. Trent Dilifer sucked as a QB but the defense was outstanding. The 49ers do have a chance to win the Super Bowl. It is all going to depend on how bad they want it.

I Have been a huge 49ers fan since 1982 and have enjoyed watching the great quarterbacks of the past. Yes even Jeff Garcia. I know most people don't like Garcia, but he was highly underrated quarterback. No I'm not gay and either is he. But now we get watch most niner fans thinking we have a chance at a Super Bowl victory with Alex Smith. Not gonna Happen. I'm not going to say why because we all know why. I've had zero confidense with Smith since day one. I am pissed that we got stuck overrated no. 1 pick. I was hoping that the niners would go 0-16 so that we could get rid of this leach. Now that the niners are winning were going to be stuck with this guy for what seems like an eternity. I have watched this guy miss receivers wide open 4 yards away by throwing the ball one yard short of the targets feet. No he was not pressured either. I just watched the Niners play Seattle. Yes he was terrible. Most of his plays were running towards the sideline and then throw the ball away. What happen to scrambling or stepping up in the pocket. He either just stands in the pocket or runs like a scared puppy dog to the sideline. ( his safety zone ) But the end result is that the Niners won by two points. That awesome defense and special teams bailed out Alex Smith !!!AGAIN!!! Okay my last and final point. Alex Smith can drive down the field and get to the red zone. Then he really stinks. David Akers set a new NFL record in this game for the most field goals made in a season. Now this is not including all the ones he missed, and the season is still not over. I think that pretty much says it all. At least Jeff Garcia had heart and had ball that hung to his knees. I have never seen a tougher Quarterback. I think the Garcia haters are just homophobic, and the guy is not Gay. If the niners somehow made it to the Super Bowl I would be happy of coarse. But I will never be an Alex Smith Fan. !!Ever!!.

Reply-to:I watched that Giants - Cowboys sunday night game last week where Eli Manning passed for something like 400 yards against a blitzing Dallas defense.  Dallas was bringing everyone and Eli had guys in his face all night, but he was calm, stood in the pocket and burned the Dallas defense by hitting open receivers.  When a defense brings like 6 or 7 guys on a blitz, there is going to be at least 1 receiver WIDE OPEN.  This very thing had me screaming at my TV during the Baltimore and Arizona games.  Watching Eli and many other QBs dissect a blitz crazy defense is a thing of beauty.  Alex cant do it.  He just stands there, stone faced and takes a sack every time.  The offense faces 2nd and 3rd and longs every drive when this happens.  Impossible to move the ball that way.

Alex sucks.  Why?  Because he scrambles away from pressure that isn't there and in the cases of the Baltimore and Arizona games where they blitzed a ton of people, when there is a rusher coming at him he panics, holds on to the ball too long or takes a sack unnessarily.  Alex also only completes passes when a receiver is wide open and he has never been one to anticipate coverage and "thread the needle" to get the ball between a couple of defenders to an otherwise open receiver.  Alex just doesn't try.  I suppose I have to give him credit for not being gutsy and knowing he sucks because he'd probably throw 50 interceptions per year if he took more chances.  Harbaugh has a very tight leash on him and Alex needs this.  I hope we can find someone better than this waste of space.  Alex is horrible.

Even though I am a Packer fan and Aaron got ripped off in the 2005 draft I am happy for Alex. Wonders what a good coach can do for a team

Alex is a stud. Hate on him all you want, but 6 o coordinators in 7 years and 3 heads coaches. You do the math. 3 best qbs in the NFL have had the same system coaches their entire career (just so we're clear Tom Brady Peyton manning and Aaron Rodgers). And drew brees has been in the same system more than 3 years. Continuity at the qb position = success. I feel bad for people that dedicate a site to hating niners especially if you're a miner fan. That's a Dallas cowboy thing to do :)

Am watching 49ers v Detroit and yes, Alex Smith still sucks! Terrible passing accuracy and no ability to throw under pressure.  Harbaugh has him playing super conservative because he has no skill to complete anything except a simple no-pressure pass.
