Clearly so many intelligent comments on here....oh sorry my mistake....so much horseshit. Chris Borland is a young man who made an informed decision to get out of a sport that would very likely impact negatively upon his later life.
He chose to try and save himself from the nightmare of CTE and if the comments above are in any way reflective of football fans in general then he has clearly valued his future over idiots who sit their increasingly fat asses in the stadiums.
Why shouldnt he comment on the NFL and their brazen attempts to deny and then cover up/close off the scandal of CTE. Their actions have been nothing short of a disgrace.
Who are we to make judgements on another persons decision regarding their health and well being or what he advocates post career. It is no ones business but his own.
Chris Borland is truly a disgrace to the game of football. More importantly, personally, he is a disgrace to the 49ers great franchise.
I was disappointed, but accepted the fact that he retired because he's a pussy and couldn't withstand the physicality of pro football for more than 1 season.
But attacking the league, whining about the possibility of potential brain damage which I'm sure he had been aware of this increased risk for the entirety of his college career at Wisconsin, unless he's been living under a rock for the past century, is disgusting.
I don't deny that professional football has great risks. But I also know that millions, maybe billions of young men would give their left nut for the gift and opportunity that Borland has thrown away. And I can't blame him for throwing it away.
What I am angry about is that he knew all along what he was getting into; he knew that risks associated with being a linebacker in the NFL, and he brazenly signed a 4-YEAR CONTRACT with the niners.
When you sign for FOUR YEARS, you should be committed to playing for 4 YEARS.
I guarantee that Borland did not just learn about the possible long term effects of football related head trauma after the 2014 season. He knew it before he signed his FOUR YEAR contract.
He sucks because I bet it's his shoulder which is the real reason he quit...How many surgeries has he had to date. I feel he is a good guy but why piss away my draft pic when I bet he knew he was gonna quit anyway. Coulda been another Zack Thomas but then you would have to have a pair of balls. From a niner fan since Cool Joe!
