Burnett is an inside linebacker while Greg Ellis is an outside linebacker. You can't just switch their positions. The Cowboys drafted Anthony Spencer two years ago specifically to take over Ellis's position when he can no longer produce. Although I would really hate to see Burnett go b/c he has been a solid player for Dallas these past few years, I am sure other teams have noticed his abilities and will give him the opportunity to start rather than just being used in sub packages. So its more than likely that the Cowboys wont resign Burnett especially when Chris Canty and D. Ware (who is due for what some are saying the biggest contract for a LB in NFL history) are also in need of new contracts.
