New men joining the Fraternity of Head Coaches at any level are usually a bit reserved when discussing their brethren. Most try not to make enemies of men who could make their lives miserable later on. Like if you plan on getting a High School job down the road and you might need a reference or two. Unkind words are blatant shows of disrespect. Apparently, that is not Mike Hominik's style. March 30th, at a league wide meet in greet at the Big Orange Club in Hoover with former Tennessee Vols Chamique Holdsclaw in attendance punctuated not only his lack of respect for his fellow coaches within the Greater Birmingham Basketball League, but his lack of understanding of etiquette.. Yes, Mike Hominik boldly and publicly showed just how unfit he is to be a head coach in the ranks of AAU basketball at this level. After all,you would think he would be a bit more humble following a somewhat serious cheating scandal that happened up in the Nutmeg State back in 2007. In a public statement, with other league coaches looking on, knowing full well that every word would be scrutinized, he basically guaranteed a 12-0 record within the League. He also stated that top ranked Atlanta Celtics are overrated, and would be in for a long ride back to Georgia on June 4th. "..."That team (Atlanta) does not impress me. This is not 2003. Dwight Howard,Rajon Rondo and Joe Johnson are not gonna be suiting up." So why am I writing this? Because Hominik is just a Junior Leaguer,a former Middle School hoops coach trying to bark loudly to get noticed. Coaches like William Peake are to classy to call you out right there, but don't think for a second he is not laughing at your pathetic display of public speaking. So here's a prediction for you Mike. William Peake and his Birmingham Hustlers will beat you by 50 this year if they can! Is this trash talking the message you want to send to the boys you're trying to mold? Maybe so. After all in the media guide it states that former OU Football Coach Barry Switzer was his idol. We can all agree that you may indeed break Barry Switzer's record—his record of breaking the most NCAA rules. With you as an example, we can expect the "anything goes" attitude that gave Oklahoma the reputation of football's most "run amok" team back in the 80's. Maybe that's where you got the idea to recruit inner city players by offering rental cars back in the Summer of 2007. Barry would have been so proud! So what's next? The following day two players from Hominik's AAU squad started a twitter war with opposing players from the top ranked team in Georgia. Talking trash, threatening to end their current 38-game winning streak. Last Saturday Hominik proved he's not ready for prime time before he ever coached his first game in the state of Bama.

Birmingham will win this league once again. I don't care who they throw in. Good job by Brookin's finally getting a squad down in Hoover. Best of luck!

The Greater Alabama AAU season kicks off May 17th I think. The addition of Hoover will make for eight teams this season. There will be two divisions (four and four).
