Posted by GS November 10, 2009, 2:19PM But believe what you wish. You'll see when Brown is in a different uniform next year and the team that pays him all that money wishing they hadn't.The teams biggest mistake was panicking after losing Roaf and took a dominant right tackle and put him on the left where he's been average, but average left tackles make more than dominant rights and Brown sure ain't taking a pay cut to go back to the right when he can get big bucks elsewhere.Brown would have been an all-pro RT every year if they hadn't of moved him,now all we have is an average left tackle that's gonna leave and we get nothing for him in return.Should have made the move last year when a few teams were interested because of injuries and at least got a 2nd,now,Nothing.Great move. Reply to this comment | Post a new comment Posted by GS November 10, 2009, 2:26PM bondcrash,He played Abraham one on one a lot in the game and did a good job, brown would have had at least 4 holding calls against him by the half, and the main one they were helping was Stinchcomb when Peppers moved over to his side.Of course I did see an unnamed running back miss his chip on peppers repeatedly. In fact.go watch the TD throw to Meachum and you will see the missed chip and near forced fumble by Peppers when Stinch got destroyed and the back was supposed to chip Peppers and then run his route. A holding call is just as bad as a sack besides the injury factor and the guys Bushrod just played against and didn't allow a sack by Brown has been dominated the past few years by.Brown won't be a Saint next year because of Bushrod. Why would you pay a right tackle huge money to play LT and get smoked by the elite pass rushers?Brown is going to be paid big left tackle $,already is,and when you get that type of $ you are expected to be able to win one on one against premier pass rushers, and Brown has proven he can't do it.He had the most holds in the league last year.Does anyone really believe the team is gonna give Brown a huge contract with Bushrod being serviceable and a hell of a lot cheaper? And I don't call someone who was an alternate to the pro bowl and went because another player didn't go a great accomplishment. And anyone who doesn't think Bushrod is a better run blocker than Brown is crazy. You must just watch the game once and only keep your eye on the ball instead of certain players. Posted by xman20002000 November 10, 2009, 4:30AM So we don't need Jammal Brown... what a joke.. Inappropriate comment? Alert us. Reply to this comment | Post a new comment Posted by bondcrash November 10, 2009, 8:08AM I think somehow Brown's injury has been a blessing in disguise... I am wondering whether this sudden balance this year is also due to that... Bushrod been remarkable but how many times has he got help... Inappropriate comment? Alert us. Reply to this comment | Post a new comment Posted by kewlbrees November 10, 2009, 11:29AM also not knocking brown i dont belive he was getting help but how many holding calls has that kept bushrod from getting so i see your point "bondcash" sp was force tp make some changes |

New Orleans Saints left tackle Jermon Bushrod holds down the fort, with a little help By Mike Triplett, The Times-Picayune November 09, 2009, 2:59PM Michael DeMocker / The Times-Picayune New Orleans Saints left tackle Jermon Bushrod had a good game against Carolina on Sunday. Unless you were paying close attention the past two weeks, you might not have noticed that All-Pro pass rushers John Abraham and Julius Peppers visited the Superdome. Peppers, who was limited somewhat by a hand injury, had just one tackle, one quarterback hurry and no sacks during the Saints' 30-20 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Six days earlier, Atlanta's Abraham had no sacks, no tackles and one QB hurry in a 35-27 loss to the Saints. That's a great credit to New Orleans' third-year left tackle Jermon Bushrod, who has been growing into the role since replacing injured Pro Bowler Jammal Brown during the preseason. But Bushrod stressed that he didn't get the job done by himself. He said the coaching staff came up with great plans in each of the past two weeks to avoid pressure and use additional players to block or chip. He figured he only went up 1-on-1 against Peppers "a handful of times" Sunday. "We knew the situation we were getting ourselves into," Bushrod said. "We're playing game-changing defensive ends, and I really don't care who you are, I don't think one person can successfully block Abraham or Peppers or (Philadelphia's) Trent Cole. "You've got to have a good coaching scheme and good offensive balance and a quarterback that gets the ball out. (The staff) puts me in a position to have a little bit of success." Bushrod admitted that he played one of his worst games at Miami three weeks ago, while the Saints were digging themselves into a 24-3 hole in the first half. But he and the rest of the offensive line bounced back in the second half of that game and eventually began to dominate the game up front. Then they rallied back with outstanding performances against Atlanta and Carolina. The Saints did give up a costly sack and forced fumble in the first quarter against the Panthers on Sunday, when defensive end Tyler Brayton got around right tackle Jon Stinchcomb and hit quarterback Drew Brees from behind. But Brees blamed himself, and Saints Coach Sean Payton said that was more of a "coverage" sack. Stinchcomb held off Brayton for a few seconds, but Brees had nowhere to throw the ball and wound up holding on to it too long. "Overall, I think we played pretty well. The protection was good and we did a good job of getting the ball out," said Payton, who stressed that the Saints made it a point to not allow Peppers to disrupt the game, especially after his dominant performance at Arizona last week that included an interception return for a touchdown and a forced fumble on a sack. "If you watch the game the week before, you saw him almost single-handedly take over the Arizona game," Payton said. Posted by defduggie November 09, 2009, 4:50PM Bushrod's play & wins each week only show that JBrown is expendable and I think he's gone after this season. I can't even remember Bushrod being called for a hold at all this year. Scheme is huge with this offense. Inappropriate comment? Alert us. Reply to this comment | Post a new comment |

I think you're the only one. Saints fans want him gone. All those stupid mistakes he makes costs the team a lot of missed opportunities. Plus he has always been hurt since he came to the league. The only reason he got sent to the pro bowl was because of drew but now we know that's because of Drews talent, because he does well no matter who protects him. Bottom line is Jamals days in the NFL are numbered. No one is going to pay him big money now. |

Fifth-year veterans Jammal Brown of New Orleans and Alex Barron of St. Louis also are experienced starters, but there are red flags on both. Brown, 28, won’t play at all this season after undergoing sports hernia surgery in August and hip surgery in September. Though he was the Saints’ best lineman before the injury, it would take a lot of faith to invest any sort of significant money in a 313-pound man coming off two such surgeries. He’s perhaps most likely to reach free agency, because third-year pro Jermon Bushrod is playing well in his place. |

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 20, 2009 7:40 PM ET Losing a Pro Bowl left tackle for the season should be a devastating blow to an offense. The Rams weren't the same when Orlando Pace would get hurt, and the Seahawks offense has struggled to recover from Walter Jones' recent injury problems. So when the Saints lost Jamaal Brown before the 2009 season even started, there was legitimate worry throughout Who Dat nation. Enter Jermon Bushrod. The massive 6'5, 315-pound third-year player has ably filled Brown's shoes. According to SI's Peter King, Bushrod didn't allow a single pressure from Osi Umenyiora in New Orleans' win over the Giants Sunday. The guys at FootballOutsiders think Bushrod is arguably playing better than Brown did. Bushrod, his unheralded teammates, and Drew Brees' quick release have all helped keep the Saints MVP candidate upright all season. Brees has been sacked only four times. "The offensive line has been awesome," Brees said. "Look at what they've done protecting me the last few years, and now you throw in the balance of the running game. It's a direct correlation how that front five is playing for us." Bushrod is playing so well, perhaps he'll keep the job. Brown is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Permalink Comments SF Saints Fan says: October 20, 2009 8:11 PM I agree that Bushrod is playing better than Jamaal Brown and believe that because Brown is an unrestricted free agent that he has played his last down of football with the Saints. Unless he wants to take a "below market deal" to stay with a winning team. They probably wouldn't keep him even if he paid them at this point. Too many penalties and dumb mistakes on his part. October 21, 2009 9:43 AM Watching the game, I could have sworn that Brees had enough time to BBQ a steak, well done, before throwing the ball - many times. Yeah, must have been the scheme. As to "Rod", he is playing greatQ An added bonus is that they don't have Brown jumping offsides in critical moments of the game. Brown personally killed many 3rd down opps for the team with his inability to count. scomibord says: October 21, 2009 9:58 AM tv says: October 21, 2009 9:43 AM Watching the game, I could have sworn that Brees had enough time to BBQ a steak, well done, before throwing the ball - many times.
