I don't think his performance was all that bad this season. If bad performances are to be discussed, let's talk about Drew Brees. I don't hear anyone discussing cutting Drew Brees, or renegotiating his contract and the whopping payment he's due next season. The same goes for Jimmy Graham! His production this season certainly was not worth $10 million. In my opinion, Colston has always behaved too gingerly with the Saints, for whatever his reasons are. He comes across as intelligent, so I don't think that is an issue. It's a known fact that he would have been paid more had he signed with another team, when he became a free agent. Also, as great as his stats are, they would have been even better if he were first-string WR on a team that didn't spread the ball around as much as the Saints do. Perhaps, there are personal reasons he has remained with the Saints. Also, I've always seen the Saints as borderline unscrupulous, if not flat-out unscrupulous, when it comes to money matters. They are known to be very frugal, even with their better players. With Colston due a big payment next year, I can totally fathom "Saints' brass" needing to create a quantifiable out, as it relates to paying Colston his $7 million next year, and it comes across as if they recruited Drew Brees to help carry out the mission. There were games this season where Colston went for quarters, and if I remember correctly, almost entire games, with no snaps, in little to no coverage, mind you. Where else would you see that happen to a team's #1 WR? Even still, he ended up with 902 total receiving yards for the season. Says a lot about him, and very little for the Saints...
