They should trade him to the Cowboys. I would like to see Tony Homo be "protected" by Backus, and then watch Trent Cole or Brandon Graham run right past Backus and drag Tony Homo's crybaby ass to the ground.

Backus is the worst LT in the history of football, hands down. I'd fight anyone to the death that disagreed with me. He has the uncanny ability to 'slingshot' a defender into the quarterback faster than going unblocked, or run blocking into open air. Watching him play is the only thing more frusterating than wondering how he has a roster spot.

I don't know how the Lions front office doesn't see it... maybe due to the recent coaching changes, or the follies of Matt Millen, maybe because the Ford family has a thing for him, or maybe there are rules in the NFL that guarantee mentally handicapped people playing time. Whatever the reason for this gross neglegence, he's still around.

YouTube 'Jeff Backus highlights'. You get a bunch of Michigan football clips, because that's the last time he blocked anybody. -you also get boxing highlights and Golden Girls episodes, but nothing with him in a Lions jersey. Fitting, since I'd take Betty White at LT any day before Backus.

He has NEVER been good. The only positive thing you can say about him is he doesn't get injured, but this is the NFL; no extra credit just for showing up.
