That's messed up. He stopped playing hockey because someone he onced loved, (probably as a teen love thing) got married?! He'll find someone new and move on like she did. I really don't understand how someone can be "depressed" and waste a full year on this shit. If you know this guy, tell him to move on and re-focus his energy on something worth wild, like hockey!

People act like Paul's return would save the Lightning or something. Personally, I would love to see him back because he's my favorite player and even though the game is fun without him, it would be better (for me) if he was still playing.

The point of the matter is the fact that when Paul left the team, he had his privacy in tact. I understand that there are a lot of people out there that think that the fans are owed some kind of explaination, and I'll admit that even I believed it to be so, but the truth of the matter is that he IS entitled to his privacy. If it is going around town, then so be it, but people really shouldn't be on here reporting his personal business. He obviously trusted some people with the information and unfortunately it is now getting out. Give him his privacy and let him be.

I think because everyone in my area my approach to the discussion is very different than the rest of you. I actually heard the bartender and some dudes at the bar talking about the same thing today at lunch. You just assume that I'm 'blabbing' and starting controversy because it sounds like a grocery line headline to you. But to me it's common knowledge that most people in the area are talking about. I'd also like to point out there are a couple of us that have contributed thoughts in this thread. It may sound like one source but there are a few. Which just supports my point.

Look the discussion started about why he was on leave. I happen to be (relatively) close to the situation and have knowledge to contribute. I'm not trying to start rumours. I'm not being malicious. You can't be involved in a discussion and attack because someone contributes an idea that you don't like. Am I a stalker? Haha no. The gym happens to be in the largest arena complex in Canada. I work out there and play in men's leagues in the facility all the time. We've got some mutual friends and I feel bad for the guy. You'll likely never beleive me. That's fine. But it's true and will likely never be released publicly. Kind of like pronger moving out of Edmonton because he was banging a reporter and he wife freaking.

It's amazing you all think you know what happened. If the NHL team is not releasing it and Paul is M.I.A then only his family and a selected number of friends know. Some of you jump to conclusions, maybe there was a death in the family or he's sorting things out. Don't think personal leave is depression, it can be many things. As for the person saying it's because of a girl, thats stupid....people break-up theres no reason to cry about it. The only reason he would go on personal leave over a girlfriend this long was if she passed away or something very tragic happened to her. Stop think you know about it when you don't, your posting lies. You don't know anything, when Paul or the NHL says something about this, then I'll believe....

Yes essentially depressed. Not on suicide watch or anything. But having a rough go. He's in Canada. In whitby. He working out actively at Adam foote's training centre there. And he has said it himself. To everyone in his circle. People in the area talk about it openly. But do you honestly expect him to "post" it or "vocalize" it in the media. Come on?
