Training Camp Rosters
This is Adam Huxley. He was on the Oilers 07-08 training camp roster, and over the years has appeared in training camps for Phoenix, Washington and Calgary.Training camp rosters are always interesting, but for the Oilers I think there may be some surprises. Why?Two reasons.First, there is a plethora of unsigned free agents with NHL experience, and these men have to land somewhere. Second, if we add up all the players we know will attend Edmonton's camp this fall we're going to get a big number (7

Latest status of key NHL UFAs.
We’ve hit the dog days of the NHL off-season and while some folks are doing their best to keep the rumor mill churning the fact of the matter is there’s a whole lotta nothin’ goin’ on. The cream of his summer’s rather thin UFA crop have been long signed and the lack of qualify RFA talent resulted in no blizzard of offer sheets. The arbitration period ended quietly, and most general managers are now on much-needed vacations. So here’s a quick look at the few remaining UFAs of note and what

7,575 artists SoundExchange can’t find
p2pnet news view Music | RIAA | P2P:- At the end of April, Fred Wilhelms and I started “Project Unfound Artist,” an experiment in crowd-sharing to see if the ordinary denizens of the Internet could cut into the 7,872 names posted on the SoundExchange site as artists they’d been unsuccessful in getting registered. Fred is a Nashville entertainment lawyer and if the corporate music industry had any ethics, he’d be its ‘ethicist-in-chief,’ once wrote CounterPunch’s Dave Marsh. I’m proud to say

And Then There Were 51
This post is going to be like an old set of hockey cards. You know, like back in 1990 when Score or Upper Deck would put out a Series II at the end of the season to put out cards of all the rookies/traded players. That's sort of like what this is. You see, when I was up late the other night writing that mega post about NHL 94 I was also half asleep. Given that I don't drink (Paul) coffee or energy drinks, I wasn't thinking at full speed. You're smart though, and probably figured this out due t

And, how’d they do? Part 2: Edmonton
Edmonton Oilers The Oilers tied with the Canucks at 88 points, and did so in almost the exact opposite manner - scoring a division high 235 goals while allowing a whopping 251. Of all the teams, the Oilers made the most dramatic changes this offseason, even though they lost out in the Marian Hossa sweepstakes. Oddly, they didn’t do anything to shore up their goaltending - Mathieu Garon and Dwayne Roloson appear slated to return in the fall. On defense, the Oilers aquired Lubomir Visnovsky fro

Four-Color Critiques #6: The Bestest Batman
We’re coming up on Bat-Fever, Volume 47 or something, in which every cereal box, soft drink product, and medical waste disposal container features the familiar Batman logo, so as to underscore the summertime release of a feature film featuring the aforementioned Batman. Me? I’ve got low-grade Bat-Fever all the time, since as I may have mentioned before, Batman is My Favorite. But who’s my favorite Batman? Up until a few weeks ago, that answer would have been easy: Frank Miller’s Batman, as d

Port Adelaide: Academy of what?
In England, West Ham United is known as the Academy Of Football, a place where a legion of players get their education then leave for more lucrative surrounds. Swans looking to put the clamps on the Magpies At Alberton, Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams thinks of the Power as a club of learning, where skills are honed and perfected under the guidance of a senior figure who spent a good part of his younger years juggling school teaching with playing. In keeping with the theme, the Power can

Thoughts on Linden, Sundin and Unrestricted Free Agency
As goofy as this may sound, I purchased a Greenspire Linden tree today and planted it (along with 2 others) in my front yard. Call it a Trevor Linden tribute or whatever (I'll think of it that way), Linden tree is over 7 feet tall and only costed me $75. Apparently the name Linden derives from the Linden tree. Just so you know. I'll tell you right now, if Mats Sundin signs with the Canadiens, Senators, or Flames I will burn my Mats jersey and post pictures of it. You can hold me to my word on t
