Well, it looks like the Rangers won't be re-signing Shanny; they don't have enough cap room. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up. It seems to be pretty up in the air - at some point, bloggers 'in the know' have claimed he's going to New Jersey, Montreal, Philadelphia, Boston, Toronto, Ottawa, Dallas, Pittsburgh, L.A or Detroit, but all of it so far seems to be wishful thinking. |
| I agree with the last posting. There's no doubt Shanny is at this stage in his career a player of diminishing returns, but what's with the hatred? |

That recent anti-Shanny rant raised some valid points but went way over the line .... no doubt some weird bitterness there. I'm a born and raised Detroiter myself and think that the consensus among fans in Motown is that Shanny's departure from the wings was somewhat sad, but the right move. He wasn't able to play the intense two-way style we're excelling at now. He's no Selke candidate like Datsyuk or Zetterberg, and his signing with the rangers allowed these younger players to step up win another cup. Out with the old and in with the new, I guess. I wish Shanny all the best in NY, but can't say I'm much of a Ranger's fan (Avery's antics have been an embarrassment to the league ... why wasn't he disciplined by either the league or his coach?) |

What a bizarre rant... I'm not sure whether the person who wrote it is bitter because a) Shanny chose to play for the Rangers instead of the Wings or Canadiens, b) Shanny happens to be good looking and dresses well (so "impeachable"), or c) the ranter has an inferiority complex regarding New York City's status in the world. I can't stand the Rangers, but really, that post was such condescending crap. |

Let me be clear: Shanahan clearly (clearly) sucks. In 2005 he turned down equal offers from the Canadiens (the most storied franchise in hockey history any true-blue player would die to suit up for) and the Red Wings (the second-most storied franchise in hockey history with whom he fulfilled his Canadian boyhood dreams by winning three Stanley Cups, and where the fans LOVED him) to go to play in New York because NYC is "cool." (For the record NY should not be considered a real original six team -- by virtue of its importance as an international financial center, NY was awarded a team in 1926, but the Rangers have done very little with the nine decades given them, and NY fans are among the most uninformed in the league). Moreover, with the Rangers Shanahan has had NO post-season success, aside from being ball-gagged by transvestites in Manhattan clubs (probably the reason he went to New York in the first place). His character is without a doubt impeachable (former teammates on Detroit attest to his aloof "metrosexual" tendencies). Shanahan gets praise from 1) uneducated fans blinded by his famous, though swiftly fading, goal-scoreing abilites, 2) women who think he's hot (unfortunately for them, they may want to check which "team" he's playing for, if you know what I mean) or 3) typical NY sports fans who have never left their cockroach infested boroughs, but still think they live in the most magnificent place in the world (hint: try anywhere else). I have to say, it was PATHETIC how many Shanny jersey's I saw on the train after he signed with NY -- this town is full of band-wagon phonies, and I'm often ashamed to live here. GO WINGS! GO HAWKS! GO LEAFS! ALLEZ CANADIENS, ALLEZ! (or any other teams that doesn't attract shallow prima donnas like Jagr, Shanahn, Avry, et.al.) |

| shanahan is my favorite hockey player ever. i have a wearable jersy, signed jersey, card on every team he played on ( autographed or a jersey card) I play hocky and am # 14 all the time. if i could me one person from the NHL with out a doub or heitation I'd say Brendan Shanahan |
