the reason he is not on a line to succeed is because he could never keep up with the speed of linemates like Giroux and Voracek. I feel sorry for Read, who when healthy has good speed. and for the record, i have never been impatient with players like Sharp and JVR. they had potential and it showed. The only other player i knew was a bust early by his tired skating was Mike richards. I have played hockey my entire life and at 21 you show your true speed. He is extremely slow, does not skate hard and will get slower , not faster as he ages. Like the other poster below mentioned, he belongs in the AHL at best.

Couts has never since he stepped foot on NHL ice has been put in a place to succeed. At 21 finishes 9th in Selke voting. Is on pace for another career year at 22 despite playing the hardest mins in the NHL (no other player out 700 plays mins and has usage like Couts) while having to haul around an injured Matt Read and useless Umbeger.. Ya, he's a bust. He's on pace for 40 pts DESPITE all of that AND hasn't even entered his scoring prime yet (25-27) we should give up on him like we did Sharp and JVr cause you know those guys are doing so horrible.. Jesus Christ. Calm your tits and look at the bigger picture..

I agree he might be he slowest young forward in the game. No vision, no goal scoring ability and of course not a good assist man. Belongs in the AHL at best.

whats up anonymous MC???
that's the beauty of all this.......he's not in juniors anymore. If he's slow now, imagine what he will look like in 2 years (3 packs of cigarettes a day like Richards)

Hey Anonymous BG, Look up his junior numbers and give him some more time. Talk to me next year.

this forum is a dream come true!!!
The only other time I was so frustrated with a single player was several years ago when I thought Mike Richards was a bust before people started talking about it.
The sad part is that I would rather have Richards than Coutorier.
If I hear one more person say what a defensive gem he is, I am going to throw up. This the NHL. Every player if told to do so, can shadow a player. He is actually even weaker when not shadowing as his speed is the slowest of any Flyer forward. He has decent puck handling skills in open ice but is extremely weak when covered. His open ice passes are good but throws it blindly when pressured. He has no scoring touch and 90% of his goals are rebounds or from horrible angles that would go off the back of a goalies pad.
Flyers need to step up and admit hes a bust. trade him and let a much more talented player like laughton get some time.

Reply-to:I think the gap between his ears is larger than the gap between his teeth. This guy will never score more than 3 goals a year if that! I cant believe we passed on Dougie Hamilton for this pussy ass non scoring moron.
Know hockey...his job is a defensive forward and he plays it well.  You think every forward job is to score goals then you are wrong.  He is one of the best at what he does so think and know before you speak.

Ha. If you knew anything about hockey you'd know he's an elite defensive player that plays top mins against the best players in the NHL and when he does his Corsi is a plus.. Only 2 other players in the NHL who finished Kat season playing the same sorts of mins against the same quality of opposition.. Bergeron and Toews.. He's 20 yrs old! G didn't get into the league till he was 21-22, same with Carter and Richards.. Most of these guys played in the AHL first but coots had elite defensive abilities that made him get on the team. THE KID HAD 27 PTS WITH RINALDO AND SHELLY AS HIS LINE MATES HIS ROOKIE SEASON! Last year Lavy only played him in a limited role, he's got better linemates this yr and he's being given more opportunity and he's looked great out there, had an assist last night. The whole team is struggle to score last year he had suck bad PDO puck luck that anybody who knows stats know won't last much longer even Bob McKenzie this summer said to expect good things from him. HE'S 20! Give the guy a break!
