In the Buffalo Sports election scene there is a one contest thats a complete mismatch, because the incumbent is way ahead of the challenger. But we will give both guys a spot to put out their view on why they should win the position, this position is. Starting Goaltender First up contender Jocelyn Thibault Hey there Sabre fans. JT here. Sure I know you looooove Ryan Miller. He's a great guy don't get me wrong. But hes no JT. I've been around the NHL for a long time now. I have above .500 w

This is David Haas. His nickname was "the Real Deal", which should be given to prospects who are drafted in the top 2. Sidney Crosby could handle it, Vincent L. too. David Haas was drafted 105th overall in the 1986 Entry Draft. His nickname should have been "the Long Shot" or "One in a Million" because in pretty much every draft since 1969 going 105th overall means you're NOT "the Real Deal." That alone is a tell that NHL scouts and drafting men can spot talent. No matter how you work out the

For one game at least, the spotlight shone on someone other than Sidney Crosby last night in Calgary. Kris Letang’s sick deke on Miikka Kiprusoff, which kinda looked like a right-handed version of Crosby’s deke of Jose Theodore a couple of years ago, resulted in the game-winner in the shootout for the Penguins, beating the Flames 3-2. It may have been a costly win for the Pens, as Marc-Andre Fleury sustained an ankle injury early in the game.  Dany Sabourin relieved Fleury and did a good job,

As expected, the Penguins recalled veteran goalie Ty Conklin from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, temporarily replacing starter Marc-Andre Fleury, who suffered an ankle injury last night in Calgary. Prior to this season, Conklin was the backup goalie in Columbus then was traded to the Buffalo Sabres at the trade deadline. The Pens still have not provided any updates on Fleury’s condition at this time.

Yes, that wailing sound you hear is my reaction to the news that Ty Conklin has been called up to be the bench counterpart to Danny Saboo. Someone hasn't been watching their knob hockey. Stay healthy, Danny! My finals-stressed nerves can't take Conks in net. I'd like to wish a hearty 'get well soon' to Flower and hope for a speedy recovery. Right when he was getting hot! At least it doesn't sound serious. (Interesting side bit about recalling Recchi...have their been prospective buyers for #8?

2 - 1 SHOOTOUT [ NHL.com RECAP ] On this 82-game journey we all embark on, every so often we get to witness some special things. Tonight, as hockey fans, was one of those instances. If games like this don't make you appericate the game, nothing will. Even if they wouldn't have pulled it out in OT, these are games that make us glad hockey exists. Good times. Buckle your balls/ovaries down for the showdown in Philly Tuesday night. ................................................ PREGAME W

12.8.07 More at http://pensburgh.blogspot.com Fleury's OK Pittsburgh Penguins fans everywhere can breathe a little sigh of a relief - Fleury's injury isn't that bad. On an awkward fall during a shot barrage in Thursday night's game against Calgary, Fleury left the game and would not return in what looked like a knee injury. As the game progressed, reports hinted that Fleury was on crutches in the dressing room and it was not his knee injured in the play, but in fact his ankle. The final prognosi

Just like the old days. Cross-state rivals Philadelphia and Pittsburgh square off in a heated, physical hockey game. And the Flyers dominated the game. The Penguins saw their four game winning streak, and three game road winning streak, go down in flames in Philly tonight, as the Flyers scored early and often on Dany Sabourin, then Ty Conklin, easily defeating the Pens, 8-2.  Joffrey Lupul and R.J. Umberger both had hat tricks for the Flyers. The Pens did get two powerplay goals in the firs

12.11.07 More at http://pensburgh.blogspot.com In all fairness I have to report on this one.  Although, I'd be more accurate doing a fight recap than a game recap. The Flyers destroyed the Penguins tonight by the score of 8-2.  Both Joffrey Lupul and R.J Umberger were in competition with one another to see who could get the most points.  Each got a hat trick on the night for the first time since 1985 that the Flyers have had two hat tricks in one game.  Lupul also had six points on the night (3-

Wednesday Roundup/Gamenight: Rangers @ Caps [AP Preview - WashingtonCaps.com Preview] What better opponent for an '80s night mullet giveaway (be sure to check in with The Peerless for an in-depth history of the mullet) than Jaromir Jagr and the Rags, who may or may not show up in these uniforms? The Rangers enter tonight's game dead last in the NHL in goals per game (2.13) but atop the League in goals against average (2.10). And yet they're 16-12-2 and have won 70% of the games in which t

The Penguins will be without the services of Marc-Andre Fleury for up to two months as reported by CBS Sports. The news is unfortunate to say the least. I was really starting to get uncomfortable with Danny Sabourin and Ty Conklin splitting game-time for the Penguins. The same article goes on to explain that Maxime Talbot will also be out for up to a month with the same ankle injury! My next question, is this a mere coincidence that Fleury and Talbot have gone down with the same injury? 'I W

The goaltending situation for the Pittsburgh Penguins took a major hit today, as the Pens announced that starting goalie Marc-Andre Fleury has a high ankle sprain and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks.  That makes his return at late January at the earliest and mid February at the latest, hopefully. While Coach Michel Therrien has already stated that he does not foresee making any trades and/or free agent signings for goaltenders, I have a feeling that they’re going to have to make a mov
