Thank you to the veteran comment below. It explains everything to those idiots, like lil miss habs fan. Any dumb ass knows the it is the player's decision where to play. The agent works on their behalf. An agent has no right to make a choice or a deal for a player without the player's consent. I can't believe there even has to be an argument over this. What a waste of time on something that anyone who knows anything about sports should know this.

A sports agent must be knowledgeable about investments, business management, financial and risk analysis, as well as about the particular sport and the trends in the sport. Staying up-to-date on sports investment and market changes is critical for a sports agent. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are required for this position as is a high level of motivation and an ability to work long hours at the bargaining table. Often sports agents will be in constant contact with the athlete and coaches during negotiations and may have several negotiations on the table at one time. The ability to multitask is essential for a sports agent.

Common work activities include:

  • Meeting with athletes, coaches, team owners and managers as required. Constant networking is essential in this career.
  • Drawing up contracts, negotiating settlement offers and advising the athlete as to the best possible options for both the short and long-term financial gains.
  • Completing risk and financial analysis on various contract or salary offers and providing this information to the athlete in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Traveling to different locations to represent the athlete in contract negotiations.
  • Staying informed as to current trends in the sport or area that the athlete competes.
  • Recruiting and marketing his or her services to other athletes in various sports or organizations to increase clients.
  • Invoicing and collecting percentages or fees as outlined in the contract between the sports agent and the individual athlete.

A sport agent is a middle man between the player and the team (s) It is like having a lawyer.

The final decission is always made by the player. If a player doesn't want to sign a deal, the agent will not sign it for him.

The agent is responsible for looking what is best for the player.

Some players recieved many offers from diffrent teams and have not yet signed with anyone..because THEY CHOOSE NOT TO.

Saku is still thinking about where HE wants to play..not where his agent tells him to.

Alex Kovalev has recieved offers from 2 teams..he has NOT signed anywhere...because he choose not to yet.

Do you understand???

the veteran girl doesn't understand. what happened to higgins. he got traded, it was his agent decision. about komi, it was his agent who made that decision to go in the leafs cuz they had a good deal in cash. they would never refuse that. komi. most of the time the agents makes the decision. for once i agree with lilmisshabs.

Um...are you confused or stupid? You're telling us to stop whining about losing players but then you're asking us to sign a petition to get Kovalev back? Sounds like you're the baby...seriously get a life

I wasn't asking you to sign anything..i gave you the choice to do it or not, i do not care what you do.

And Kovalev has not gone anywhere yet. he has not been signed anywhere, that is the point here..some of us would like them  (him/Gainey ) to reconcider.

the agents dont choose anything. maybe it seems like they are making the decisions because the're the ones communicating with the management and the ones who actually receive the contracts but they're also just there to pass along the decisions the players made.
and seriously komisarek just went where the money was higher and that's that

No no no.

First of all you have it all wrong,

Komisarek probably does care about the CH fans , it wasnt him that made the descision to leave Montreal it was his agent , Bob gainey offered Him a deal and his agent refused and his agent accepted an offer from Brian Burke.

Now Kovalev. He was offered 9 million for 2 years because thats all the money gainey had left , & Kovalev's agent refused the deal, It isin't the players making those choices it's the agents so don;t try and start petitions and everything it wont work , I dont think snobby agents who want money will care and look at those.

you don't want to sign it that fine, i don't need to listen to your 2 cents about it..you get a life.

As for Komisarek..he didn't slap anyone..you stupid people have to take everything personally. You think he cares about how you (the ch fans) thinks?

He made a decission for himself, he could care less about you pathetic cry babies, you always whinny about something!

Surprised no one whinning about why Lecavalier didn't want to come here..big french "hero"

These players are smart, they make decissions that suit them.

Stop whiing and making everything about you.

The Other players Gainey Picked are very small.

like 5"11.

Yes, They are good players and very fast but how is that going to help them when you have big guys from boston and other teams that hurt them and then they'll be out for a while.

Komisarek should've stayed with Mtl instead of going to the leafs, If he really wants to win a cup thats not the team to play for.
