Much has changed for the 26-year-old Pavelski in the past few months. His strong playoff performance helped earn him a four-year, $16 million contract in the offseason. In late October, his wife, Sarah, gave birth to their first child, son Nathan.

Pavelski is quick to say that neither development has affected his game.

"Every day I come to the rink and work as hard as I can," he said when asked about his new deal. "I'm still doing the same things. And if you told me I was going to have this many breakaways and two-on-ones early in the season, I would have taken it."

Don't blame the baby, either.

"He's a good sleeper, and we prepared for this by getting some help, too," he said. "I know how important it is to get rest."

The time to start worrying, he added, will be when he stops getting scoring opportunities.

Just saw them both at the store.  I never bother anyone when they are out because I hate to interrupt a private life.  They are really cute together and she is expecting and of course looks beautiful.  I have had the pleasure of meeting him before and he SO KIND and very easy to talk too.  I think a lot of people assume they know a player because they read up on them, but they deserve privacy.  Though it is exciting to see them in public.  heehee

Joe met Sarah many years ago when he played Juniors in my hometown...Waterloo. So it has been more than 2 years. Try about 8. And both the nicest people you could ever know.

what's so crazy about that? 2 years isn't long enough to know someone? you're an idiot. anything longer than 2 yrs...a guy is just waiting to see if he can find anyone better...obviously jp knew who he wanted.

Joe and Sarah are BOTH great people. You negative posters need to lay off the crack pipe! I know them personaly and they are the most down to earth good hearted people you will find.
