you're a moron...niemi is the only thing keeping the lackluster sharks in this series. can someone tell me where pavelski, heatley, couture and clowe are....MIA!! interesting the 2 teams competing in the west are both choke artists....which one will finally shed that moniker....for a season at least.
Anonymous (Rookie) wrote on Sun, 22 May 2011 22:11:11 GMT
Please send  this incompetent clown back to Chicago. The sharks should have sat him half way through the LA series and kept him on the bench so far he has given up 6 goals in a game and 7 goals in a game Blown huge leads in the 3rd. And he just gave up three easy goals to unobsructed shots. When is some one going to stand up say this guy aint that good. remember its not what you did last year that counts.
Proving himself a playoff god once again

Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Mon, 02 Aug 2010 20:16:23 GMT

niemi's agent was a greedy tool and is completely responsible for messing up the negotiations. i hope antii finds a place to play and dumps his agent.

Anonymous (Rookie) wrote on Mon, 02 Aug 2010 20:13:16 GMT

i'm okay with letting niemi go.....his agent was such a tool....he let his commission cloud good judgement.

Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Mon, 02 Aug 2010 19:03:04 GMT
Niemi got greedy and Turco is a good goalie with a lower salary.  Given the D in front of the goalie for Chicago, either wouldn't be a bad choice.  It all comes down to the salary cap.
Anonymous (Rookie) wrote on Mon, 02 Aug 2010 18:26:18 GMT
Sad to see Niemi go but I think his agent got a little too greedy and pissed off the Hawks management.  I hope that Niemi will find a new home somewhere - preferably not in our conference though.
Anonymous (Rookie) wrote on Mon, 02 Aug 2010 17:29:47 GMT
Obviously you don't know how the salary cap works, anon vet. They're getting Huet off the books and STILL don't have room to pay Niemi. It's Dale Tallon's fault for overpaying so many other guys. They had no choice- you can't very well ice a team with only 18 or 19 guys. It's logistics. While I'd rather have Niemi as well, Turco was willing to take less than half of what Niemi was awarded. And they tried to negotiate with him, but Bill Zito, his agent, wouldn't come to terms on a multi-year deal.
Anonymous (Veteran) wrote on Mon, 02 Aug 2010 16:28:21 GMT
They let him go what a** holes. They pay their back up goalie 5.6 million and Antti wins them the cup and they won't give him 2.75 which is a bargain....Good luck with old man Turco you will need it.

Reports say Niemi awarded $2.75 million in arbitration

Saturday, 07.31.2010 / 4:45 PM / 2010 Offseason News
By Brian Hedger  - NHL.com Correspondent

*that's a far cry from the 4 million niemi was asking for.
Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 21:52:27 GMT

So when Niemi takes his oldass self to the competition

what competition? no other team has shown interest in niemi. stick to the facts and quit taking everything so personally. I was sad when the brass traded havlat...but guess what....we were better without him.

Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 21:49:21 GMT
*more reckless*
Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 21:48:33 GMT

or minor league Crawford,

wasn't niemi minor league last year? when you have the top defense pairs in the league they can make any goalie look stellar. Thanks Duncs/ Seabs and Cambell/Hjarmalsson. Actually Niemi should be the one thanking you. I'd bet anything he (niemi) won't be as great on any other team that doesn't have the d-men we have. count on it!

Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 21:44:31 GMT
how so? throwing away your 4th defensemen is less reckless than overpaying a goalie with minimum years left to play n the NHL. Let's not forget there are other top goalies sitting without teams in free agency. Proven goalies like turco and theodore have had many successful years in the NHL. I like anti but given the dynamite d-men that has played in front of him. (including harmallson)..and bailing him out of his frequent bad decisions...i'm not prepared to pay him that insane salary he's asking for. btw...there is always in imbalance of salary on every single team...the top players always make more money because they deserve it. whether you like it or not sports teams are a business...the players that put the most people in the stands, sell the most jerseys etc are the ones that make the bigger bucks. How many niemi....or ladd jerseys do you see in the UC....none/maybe a couple. why? because they aren't franchise players. if that pisses you off...start blaming the fans...they obviously are the ones buying all that merchandise. If you don't think the poers that be don't take that into consideration....well then...."i have a bridge to sell  you....."
Anonymous (Veteran) wrote on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 21:39:57 GMT
So when Niemi takes his oldass self to the competition and we're stuck with an olderass 30-something goalie or minor league Crawford, we can sing the d-man core strength song and hope for a miracle.
Anonymous (Veteran) wrote on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 21:28:23 GMT
I'm on the fence here, but I don't agree with the Hawks or anon soph in regards to forcing an inbalance in salary and overpaying for NH, who is now near the top. Look at his stats, he wasn't all that this past season and for a team in the financial gutter and virtually bankrupt, they've thrown their eggs in just a few baskets.
Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 21:13:11 GMT

The "it's apples and oranges" analogy doesn't figure, either.

It absolutely does figure here. If an organization plays a system that builds from the defense with puckhandling d-men and a quick transition game....a d-man with those skills is worth more than a stay at home defensemen. Also to compare Hjarmalsson's situation to Niemi's is ridiculous in that NH played all the games in the regular AND playoff season whereas Niemi played half the amount of games sharing the net with Huet. NH is younger, battle tested and battle ready with very few obvious flaws in his game...while Niemi, although a rookie, is old for a goalie and has less viable years. I know you want to keep throwing out your percentages but they mean nothing and have far less to do with anything than "the apples and oranges theory".

Anonymous (Veteran) wrote on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 16:53:15 GMT
no one's worth 4 mil to play hockey, regardless of position. That said, Hammer isn't worth and doesn't deserve a 500% plus raise, esp on a team with serious cap issues. The "it's apples and oranges" analogy doesn't figure, either. The Hawks are making mistakes again and again by overpaying for some players while lowballing others. They're all on the ice and one didn't win the cup while another warmed the bench. If Hammer is worth 3.5 mil for ea of 4 yrs, Niemi can ask for the sky and expect it. His agent might have told him to get out of town after arbitration. Had he showed up at Convention and the decision came down while he was there, the event would turn into the Niemi hour instead of the Hawks weekend to showcase what they've done and their plans for the future.
Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 16:38:48 GMT
yeah...i agree. not sure who he thinks is going to pick up a 4 million dollar contract....maybe he wants to go back home and play for more money in a lesser league
Anonymous (Legend) wrote on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 16:13:33 GMT
Hossa got married!!!!? did not know that, thanks for letting me know. aww congrats to him and yes, that is a good excuse for sure.

i take it back, 4 mill is too much. He's a good goalie, but he's not spectacular. I guess i'm speaking more from an emotional standpoint. I'm a fan of his, but you are right he doesn't deserve it. Maybe in the future he'll deserve a fat new contract, but it's too early in his career and it doesn't make sense. But from what I've been hearing, it's most likely he won't be back.
Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 15:56:38 GMT
I know Hossa is on his honeymoon....he's entitled to that isn't he? Not sure about Kopecky. If Niemi was serious about the Hawks he should have been at the convention...his situation isn't the same a the other guys that were already trade. I don't agree with you that he's worth 4million though. He played only half the regular season game, he's played with the top D paitings in the league that had to bail him out more times than one can count, his puck playing skills are brutal and no goalies in the league are getting awarded those ridiculous contracts anymore.
Anonymous (Legend) wrote on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 15:34:22 GMT
i don't think he could've shown up to the convention considering technically he's not a Hawk at the moment. I do think he's worth 4 million..it just sucks that our budget/cap is limiting what we can afford and stuff. I'm more disappointed as to why the 2 Slovacks, especially Hossa didn't show up. Niklas Hjalmarsson came all the way from Sweden, sooo they can't use distance as an excuse
Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 14:08:25 GMT
i think he's gone....i like him too....but he's not worth 4 million. He hardly seems committed to the hawks anyway...he doesn't even bother showing up to the convention. sounds like someone is getting a little too big for his britches.
