Matt Cooke is the most decent, caring human beings I've had the chance to meet.

His suspension should also carry over to the first 20-30 games of next year.

First of all, I'm a huge Bruins fan, and I was pretty upset about that hit on Savard.  However, the league deemed it clean, so I was not one of those people who kept on complaining.  I know non-Bruins fans who were kind of mad about Cooke not being suspended.  Just saying.

Second, the hit from Chara on Max was totally different, and not because it's Chara, but because of the rules (which I do not think is 100% right and will probably be changed). Elbowing, aka what Cooke did, is not allowed anywhere by anyone.  Notice how his teammates, his coach, and the Penguins GM all stuck with the NHL's decision on Cooke's suspension. Chara's hit is dangerous, but it is by no means against the rules.  Coach Bylsma said, and I quote, "Matt adds a lot to our team when he plays within the rules."  Which not only meant that Cooke was playing against the rules this time, but that it has happened before in the past.  Chara's hit on Paccioretty (sp?), just like Jack Johnson's hit on Ryan Smyth and RJ Umberger's hit on Drew Doughty, all ended with a player sprawled on the ice after being hit into the turnbuckle.  Neither Johnson nor Umberger were suspended, so Chara, logically, didn't get suspended either because THOSE ARE THE RULES.

You don't know whether it was on purpose or not, unless you are him, in which case you're pretty pathetic.  There are plenty of people--majority of the guys playing hockey actually--who frequently finish checks without bringing up their elbows.  While you're right (not all hits go as planned and some do go bad), Cooke has had videos after videos of him elbowing people's heads, boarding, and going for knee-on-knees.  Don't tell me all of those are just "hard hits."

And just because the guy's fine doesn't mean that Cooke shouldn't get penalized for a dangerous act.  If you punch someone in the face, even if the guy's ok, you're probably still doing something bad.  Just maybe.

Reply-to:Listen Matt doesnt give those hits on purpose. He follows through with all of his checks. Yes some of them are a little sketchy but he doesnt do it on purpose. That is how he plays. He plays a hard game and he is the one on the team to dish out those major hits. Not all hits go as planned and some of them are bad. The guy he hit where he got the suspension was ridiculous. The guy was fine he got up and played the rest of the game. People just hate Matt bc of the hit on Marc Savard. Get over it! It is done and over with.

You c*** he could have killed Savard. No penalty was called and he recieved no suspension "WHAT THE HELL!". He deserves to die if he hits people like that. I'm a die hard Bruins fan and I would like to see him try to do something like that to Chara! He would be dead before he knew it! Love you Savard see you next season!

I do want to ask, though, because apparently B's fans "are taking it too far.." How would Pen's fans feel if this were Crosby? You'd be pretty peeved.. wouldn't you? Try and think of it from our pov just for a second and think how angry you would be if that were your favourite player, lying there on the ice unconscious. I'm angry and I want Cooke punished. A clean hit is not a hit that leaves a player with a Grade 2 concussion.
