If Paul Holmgren kept Randy Jones, the 2009-2010 Philadelphia Flyers would be Stanley Cup champions of hockey.

I made this statement in my head upon reading about Danny Syvret signing with the Ducks. If you recall, Jones was traded because of Danny Syvret. The problem Homer had this season was an inability to find two decent third line bluelines. We learned the Flyers could no doubt compete with the Chicago Blackhawks. We also learned they lacked the depth needed to knock off the Blackhawks. They were very, very close. I recall the poor play of the defense in Game 5 and the subsequent exhaustion in the final game of the series. As many fans know, this is because Laviolette and the coaches had zero confidence in Bartulus, Kraijeck and Parent. There’s a few schools of thought regarding this predicament. I myself wondered whether or not the trio would’ve played better had Laviolette and Homer sent them out there instead of giving the top four massive ice time. The results could’ve been favorable and Pronger could’ve avoided his nightmarish Game 5.

Randy Jones is a solid NHL defenseman. I’m not going to argue that he’s a 2nd line blueliner. I’m just going to argue that he’s better than every 3rd line blueliner the Flyers used in the playoffs. He could’ve reduced the ice time of the big four thus preserving their freshness for the backend of the Cup finals when many players admitted that they were so tired (after game 6 of course). He would’ve helped the problem that Homer just spent about 6 million dollars to fix. Yes, the Flyers would have won the Cup if Randy Jones wasn’t waived

I never write on these forums because no matter what anyone seems to say it becomes a fight, but for once i really am not happy with how people are talking and i would like to say a few things. I understand you fans think you have the right to critique all the players but you need to just relax. These men are PRO NHL players...  its something you havent accomplished and i dont mean you havent accomplished anything but to be a pro athlete takes alot out of them physically. I would truly love to see any of you with surgery done and get back out there like they do. Oh and for the record... just because Jones wasnt playing right after surgery doesnt mean his trainer didnt have him pushing that hip off the ice. So before any of you go opening your mouth about this man... go get surgery and get up and go work out a week later on it! tell me how you feel then. He has all summer to regroup and condition his hip how it should of been done in the first place. So relax, chill out and leave him alone. If you cant give him 3 months to get better and then prove himself then you dont deserve to be listened to with all your crap on here.

So whoever wrote the last comment is right...go and check the Flyers website and see how many players just had surgery for injuries we knew nothing about (Richards, Carter, and yes JONES is having another hip surgery) but I forgot "it hasn't bothered him or effected his play." lol

Jones had major hip surgery and never recovered.  He played through it the rest of the season and Homer and everyone else knew that.  So maybe you should get your facts straight before you start rumors.

no, you just must be some obsessed puckbunnie. i know things happen when you get surgery. but his playing isn't cutting it right now. he is way too sloppy. he turns the puck over all the time and is always out of position and to be paying a guy like that the money we are has to be killing holmgren. i wanted to kill john stevens whenever he had randy jones out there on the 1st unit on the PP. don't tell me i don't know hockey. i'm surprised anyone still likes randy. he really doesn't do anything productive. if he wasn't sleeping with john stevens he would have been gone a long time ago.
