We are screwed now that av has sighned an extension contract because he loves elfloppo. Even if they put a team in front of him he is the weakest link...or is it the missing link?

Luongo is the Big C for Vancouver.  He is definitely one of the most hated athletes to date!

Go El Floppo!

Roberto Luongo still sucks, and he will suck he life out of his new team with his frequent letdowns and occasional meltdowns. Why? Because, as Dr. Phil says, the best indicator of future behaviour is past behaviour.

Yes but you can not be a true leader of men if you are a puppet. GM would have backed off if av made the decision to play schnieds and got the wins! After all winning is everything from a championship perspective and a financial one too! Sometime you got to go out on a limb to gain success and take chances...nothing comes easy but seeing elfloppo fade away in the land of gators and tropical storms would be a blessing! Maybe he could star on swamp people as bait!!!

You have a point here, no doubt Sutter turned things around. But did AV get his marching orders to start Loungo for the first 2 games? Hell 99% of the population knew who to start in the series - no brainer - AV is not that dumb. Mike Gillis though has no choice. It is a sad situation. Regretably the Akwilleanies(apologize for spelling) rewarded substandard management. We all know it, El Floppo is the worst thing in history to happen to BC sports.

Yep and he better do something this summer or the canucks will be pretty on paper, regular season but will be a no show during the playoffs. Kesler healthy should be captain, get a chris neil type player to play on the sister line, dumped elfloppo and ride schneids, pick up a responsible stay at home smart, physical d man with a good vision of the ice and last terminate av! Fresh bench boss is needed!

Ro-bert-o  Lu-on-go.

His 6 syllable, pretentious, primadona-sounding name is just as nauseating as the melodrama of where he will end up. The new NHL has clearly passed him by. It took him two full months to find his mediocre game last fall. He couldn't bear to face the Bruins in Boston. Likewise, he couldn't play in Chicago or Minnesota. He is as physically unsuited and unsound as they come, with a fragile psyche and needy ego to match. He is NOT a closer. he was weak on the puck in allowing Parise's last minute tying goal in the Olympics. He's brutal in elimination games. Watch Lundqvist, Holtby, Quick etc. They're so much better than Luongo that they're on a different planet. Luongo's GAA vs LA in the first round was over 3.50, even though the Kings were the 2nd lowest scoring team in the NHL during the reular season.  Schneider was called upon too late to be able to clean up Luongo's mess after he shit the bed - yet again -these playoffs. Meanwhile, all schneider did in relief was put up ridiculously impressive numbers that will keep him on top of the heap for the rest of these playoffs.

Luongo is "done like dinner", as Tiger Williams used to say.

Since when does the regular season "matter most" ?! Lol ...it's just practice to qualify for the real season. The post season is all anyone cares about.
Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Mon, 07 May 2012 18:54:11 GMT

Hey nimrod (15:57:15): No one is crying about the fact that the Canucks play in the weakest division. I was merely saying that Luongo's mediocre stats are even worse than they appear to be, when you factor in the weak, low scoring division the Canucks got to feast on. The Canucks were 20 wins (wins minus total losses) overall in the reg. season. They were 12 wins  vs NW Div. teams in those 24 games. This means they were just 8 wins in 58 games vs the rest of the league.  This reveals just how soft they really were. The Kings were 4 wins vs the tough Central Div., compared to the Canucks' 2 and the Blues' -4 vs the Central Div., so was it really an upset that the Kings eliminated the Canucks and Blues when they were stronger in the reg. season games that mattered most?

The President's Trophy is just a meaningless, distracting consolation prize. It would include bragging rights IF everyone played the same balanced schedule, which they don't.

I think the League has to look at wild card. It is not right when two of the top teams in the league get knocked out in 8 of 9 games by a team that barely made the playoffs and played mediocre at best during the reg season. The teams that play hard year round get beaten up. The wild card teams should get beaten up to so it is an even keel. Sutter coasted and rested his team for the playoffs, but did not fill his stadium seats in the reg season. Thats disgracefull and the league has to pick up on that.
Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Mon, 07 May 2012 04:39:58 GMT
Great replys to my comments regarding wild card teams. I know the Canucks are out this year but its time to speak loud because Mike Gillis meets the owners tomorrow, Francisco Akelwini (my apologies for the spelling). Hockey night in Canada said that Gillis is there to defend AV. WTF! He should be there to defend himself. He is wrapping him self in the Presidents trophy and making it to game 7 last year. What good is the presidents trophy when your goal tender chokes it away in the playoffs? What good is it when the goal tender is substandard and is playing as a result of the worst contract signing in NHL history? We have to speak loud now gang hopefully the owners are reading this page and must know that Gillis made this disgrace to Vancouver with this contract from hell. As much as we have critized loungo, Gillis must be made accountable for this. He is totally oblious to this and as long he is GM, 5'8" players will be playing in front of Loungo and they will get hammered in every playoff round.
Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Sun, 06 May 2012 19:26:43 GMT

Part 1 of 2:

I find it absolutely ludicrous that ANY NHL team would consider dealing for this "has been ass clown". Luongo ranks 18th in playoff GAA (out of just 16 starters - go figure), and 16th in playoff save %. He was 16th in regular season GAA and 12th in save %. AND, he accumulated these abysmal stats IN SPITE OF the fact that he played a big part of his schedule against their non-playoff division "rivals" - that's 24 games vs Edmonton, Calgary, Colorado and Minnesota. Except that he didn't play IN Minny, because that's one of his "houses of horror", like Chicago and Boston. Schneider handily took care of those "bullies" for him. Luongo had it just as easy in the SE div. in Florida. If Luongo gets dealt to a team in any other division than the SE, he will get EATEN ALIVE by real, stiff competition.

Roberto Luongo was a myth, and mediocre at best. His past circus saves were a result of his not being athletic or skilled enough to maintain proper body positioning for second and third efforts, especially the generous juicy rebounds he characteristically provides opponents.

His being bow legged, having size 15 skates and unflexible hips means he can't butterfly laterally without falling forward into his famous snow angel position. Watch Cory Schneider keep his torso upright, even when his legs are straight out to the sides - a move that Luongo is physically incapable of. Also note Schneider's superior speed when skating backwards facing shootouts or breakaways. Backward speed allows a goalie to remain uncommitted against a shooter, making him able to wait him out and make the save.

Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Sun, 06 May 2012 19:24:33 GMT

Part 2 of 2:

Luongo's insane contract is a major deterrent to ending up where he'd like to be. I'll bet he didn't consider this scenario when he and his agent hypnotized Gillis into opening the vault for them.

Worst of all is the fact that Luongo is NOT a team player. He has shown himself to be arrogant, inarticulate, selfish, thoughtless and harmful - to his team and his team mates - by way of his comments. He has thought nothing about throwing team mates under the bus when assignments were missed. A class act would have just shut up and made the save, taking his team mate off the hook instead of giving up on the play and gleefully putting goat horns on him.

Look what it takes to win in the playoffs these days - goaltenders capable of allowing just a single goal through triple OT. Goaltenders capable of getting shutouts and stealing games on the road. Goaltenders with superb physical agility, lightning fast reflexes and navy seal mental toughness, none of which Luongo has in his repertoire. Instead of having the ability to rise to the occasion in big games, he is well known to buckle, and even "melt down" when he's needed the most.

No matter where he ends up, Luongo will, in all likelihood, flame out and be done in this league by Christmas. He was a fraud and a pretender in Vancouver, a passenger riding on the coat tails of a skilled team in front of him. His glaring weaknesses and obvious shortcomings will only be exposed to a far greater extent with a team in a truly competitive division.

It turns out that Luongo - just like the fabled naked emperor - wasn't very well dressed after all.

Anonymous (Rookie) wrote on Sun, 06 May 2012 14:26:03 GMT
Please you get in, man up and somehow find another level. Blood, sweat, tears, heart and soul wins you championships like the stanley cup. Teams can be successful during regular season play but the next level of play shows what the real NHL level is but would be a 40 game season because the players would be exhausted and injuries would be the norm. That is why the Canucks will not win the holy grail with elfloppo in nets and the sisters. They are not at the next level mentally and physically! Intense competition really exposes your hidden weaknesses as noted above!
Anonymous (Rookie) wrote on Sun, 06 May 2012 14:01:15 GMT
Wildcard rounds for the bottom 4 in each division! That rewards the best teams all year with deserved rest and lets the "late comers" battle it out. Works for football. Why should the best teams be treated just like the rest. Sure, we liked taking the President's Trophy, but the way the playoffs are set up, it's not much of a reward when LA can just come and beat us up. Same with the Bruins. Conference winner? Big deal.
Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Sun, 06 May 2012 05:11:41 GMT
My Los Angeles Comments: I think the league has to start looking at wild card rounds. Case and point, Vancouver and St. Louis bash all year, both contenters for the presidents trophy and LA stumbles into the playoffs all rested by playing mediocre all year. Then they kick in the playoffs winning 7 out of 8 against two of the top teams in the league. What's wrong with this picture? Its not right. I think they should take all of these straglers who creep in and put them against each other so only 1 stands after wild card rounds. Then the teams who have taken a beating all year to make it to the top, and support the league ratings will have a chance. People may think that LA is a miricale team, but it reality the dogged it, rested their players healthy and are taking advantage of teams that have been playing full throttle all year. It makes me sick.

I think it is time to start a Mike Gillis forum. I think this site is in part responsible for Loungo advising that he would trade. However, the Loungo contract done by Mike Gillis may be the worst professional sports contract in all of history. Sure sometime great GMs run into a bad trade/contract. But the Loungo contract is so huge in financial burden, it is unprecedented. I am displeased with Loungo's substandard performance. I am outraged with Gilllis making it happen, please Canucks owner get rid of this judgement impaired GM. They team in front of Loungo is good enough to have 3 or 4 stanley cups by now, but they have been demorilized and lost their motivation because of the unreliable goal tending behind them. They have played their best with Cory Schnieder behind them.
Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Sat, 05 May 2012 05:02:51 GMT
Before the playoffs they asked AV who they were going to start, given that Cory Schneider (CS) was playing red hot and Loungo was playing shitty. AV said he had to start with the number 1 goal tender, Loungo.... He odviosly knew of Loungo's substandard performance. What was he doing? Was this a sacrifice the season to flush Loungo out? Any half assed coach, would have started CS, no brainer. The Canucks drop the first 2 with Loungo in net. Everybody on this site seen it coming and it had to be known by AV. Why put in a shaky goal tender?Game 3 and 5 could not be blamed on CS because he was only letting in 1 or 2 per game. I think the team in front of Loungo was drained as they knew there was no way the could win the cup. I think AV scuttled the season to get rid of Loungo. Having said that, GM Gillis is the worst that the Canucks have ever had and I hope he get fired before the next season.
Anonymous (Sophomore) wrote on Sat, 05 May 2012 03:32:55 GMT
Beware, Loungo said that he will do what the team wants, and if they trade him, he will go for it. Well... who will take on his salary? Loungo knows that. That means if no one does, and he doesnt want a cut, we are saddled on a dead camel, to the tune of.... what did they say on the news $49million to the end of the contract in 2022. Good work Gillis.... It's Brilliant.....

Luongo is the best goalie in the Western Conference ever. Wouldn't you all agree? His athleticism is profound with reflexes no other goalie could match. He has carried championships with the teams he has played for. He has stolen pretty much every game that counted. He has set records that stand to this day. Also, his off the ice personality is wonderful and modest. He ALWAYS takes responsibility for losses and never blames his teammates. He has proven to be a great role model. Finally, he is a handsome and should be in Playgirl.

Luongo still sucks. Even when he's in "no man's land", like he is right now. The Canucks will have to eat at least half his salary, beause his "skills" are on the decline, and he's aging (33 is over the hill for NHL goalies these days, with a couple of rare exceptions). Also, there's a ton of mileage on his weary bones, and physically, he's just not  built for the position  - size 15 skates, bowleggedness, unflexible hips etc.- limitations which cause him to dace plant his snow angels whenever he tries to extend his butterfly laterally, and to create gaping 5-holes.

As someone said earlier on this site, the "Luongo myth" that he is a good goalie stems from the fact that he is often in poor position for followup shots due to his NOT being technically sound,  therefore he is forced to try and make awkward looking "circus saves".

This "naked emperor" has been undressed in Vancouver, and revealed for the fraud that he is. He's a sham, a wannabe, a drama queen, a primadonna, and a waste of cash, time, space and energy,

I am Italian, and a proud Canucks fan, and nobody wants Roberto Luongo to succeed in Vancouver more than me. I love him like a son, and wish for him that he would win the Stanley Cup for Vancouver. But he is not good at goaltending to stop the puck. He is very good, yes, the most winning goalie in Canucks's history, and an elite goalie, sure, but he can not stop the puck all the time. You can say to him, Roberto stop the puck. But he can't do it.

What the f. Elfloppo gets exposed against any tight checking, hard hitting teams because for the most part the players are soft like the sisters. Now give them time and space and the team can get 6 goals and win 6 to 4. Now beat the shit out of them and they don't want the puck thus creating shots and elfloppo is exposed! Battling rebounds, off balance, improper save recoveries and loosing his stick. Not bad on the first shot but he will not put together multiple saves and sure as shit will not steal a game!

Reply-to:Luongo says He will consider waiving His no trade contract if asked Gilles stated earlier, He would not ask players with no trade contracts to waive them. Postering by Luongo? Who blinks first? Forget whatever Luongo or Gilles says. It all depends on what Aquillini says ! wondering myself, will, the Italian choose the Italian,or,the American ?

luongo says he's willing to waive his "no trade" clause...i call BS on that!  he said it to the media inorder to put the pressure back onto the management knowing full well that there isn't another team in the league STUPID enough to take him!  i can't see any other NHL team owner dumber than aquilini willing to take on luongo's contract.  everyone and their blind grandma has see this choke artist single handedly lose the stanley cup for the canucks last season. proof was in the riot!  luongo still has one chance, and that's to fake some sort of injury over the summer and announce retirement!  go back to dade county and retire.  the weather is great down there year round and that's where you wife is anyways, luongo.  please go away!

Reply-to:can hardly wait until all of you turn on schneider! i am sick of the way the fans, sportswriters (gallagher) and management have treated luongo, looking forward seeing schneideer flop!

Ok, You are worse than ANYONE you are complaining about ! I dont know of anyone who when Luongo first came here was wishing and looking forward to Him flopping (something he became very good at on his belly, towards the end). This is something for whatever reason was brought on by him and his personality. Seriously,You sound like some immature Child whose doll was taken away.Wishing ill will on someone who has been a great teammate,no attitude,Polite, respectful is just sick on Your part. Feel free to move where ever Luongo goes (I am sure if You cry hard enough,Your Parents may give in)?

He won't flop Don Taylor, he is a athletic techically sound emotionally stable humble goalie - all the things el-floppo isn't

The pain for Canucks fans may soon be over... Luongo said today he'll "waive his no trade clause": http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2012/04/24/luongo-ill-waive-my-no-trade-clause/

Now the big question is who wants this jackass?

Nope, they didn't learn a thing from last season.  Lets hope they learned something from this season.

Reply-to:last off season they asked canucks to take a paycut so they could afford luongos salary.  thats why christian erhof is gone.  and without him, the sisters cant score.  then came the trade where they shipped cody hodson away for a couple jackasses not worth shit.  then the retards in charge starts luongo as if they didnt learn from last season...thats why the canucks are out in the first round and to the lowly kings at that!

Off topic... Burrows is a sissy. Had he taken that hit instead of jumpin out of the way.... That player wouldve been suspended and penalty wouldve been issues = power play prob a 5 min one. Ironic that the player was the same player who scored the winning goal in OT. (if im not mistaken)
