?Essay Introductions
Every essay or assignment you produce must begin with the introduction. It could be helpful to think for the introduction as an inverted pyramid. In these a pyramid, you begin by presenting a broad introduction to the topic and close by making a a lot more focused point about that topic as part of your thesis statement. The introduction has three essential parts, each individual of which serves a particular purpose.
The primary part is the “attention-grabber.” You will want to interest your reader inside your topic so that they will aspire to proceed reading. You also have to do that within a way that is certainly fresh and original. For example, although it may be tempting to begin your essay by using a dictionary definition, this technique is stale since it is actually widely overused. Instead, you could perhaps try just one for the following techniques:
Offer a surprising statistic that conveys something about the problem to be addressed inside the paper.
Perhaps you'll choose an interesting quote that nicely sums up your argument.
Use rhetorical questions that area your readers in a very different situation in order to get them thinking about your topic inside a new way.
For those who have a personal relationship to the topic, you may possibly use an anecdote or story to get your readers emotionally involved.
For example, should you have been creating a paper about drunk drivers, you may perhaps begin that has a compelling story about someone whose life was forever altered by a drunk driver: “At eighteen, Michelle had a lifetime of promise in front of her. Attending college on the track scholarship, she was earning solid grades and making a bunch of friends. Then 1 night her life was forever altered…”
