I heard they broke up too. I hope not to tell you the truth. I stumbled on this site researching him but I met him and he is a nice guy...so i hope they didnt break up. Stamkos's grandparents come from Armensko(Alona), Lerin(Florina) in Northwestern Greece. His grandparents are Macedonian by ethnicity and Greek by region. Alot of the people in this region were forced to assimilate to the Greek culture in the 19th century by the Greeks. Did the Macedonians migrate from the Argos(Greece), or from a slavic tribe in nothern Europe, who knows and who cares. We all orginate from a single cell 4.5 billion years ago and a African woman 250 000 years ago. My point being, were all the same somewhere down the line. |

Maybe in a few years vincent lecavalier will be able to say he is a quebecer when quebec seperates. Just like oooh let's say, croats, slovenians and bosnians are no longer yugoslavians. I am sure your census takers int he 1850's did not identify them either as "ethnicities" then either. Just becuase someone is not on a census does not mean they do not exist lol. |

But besides Misirkov�s honest acceptance, we also have a lot of accounts written by western European travellers, journalists, historians etc who visited the Balkans during the 19th century and all of them agree on this: Ethnic Macedonians were nowhere to be found at that time. The only ethnicities that were recorded in Macedonia of 19th century were Greeks, Bulgarians, Turks, Serbs, Vlachs, Albanians, Jews, Armenians and Gypsies. As for the ancestors of today�s FYROM, they were clearly labelled as Bulgarians by all the Westerners. In pg 28 of "Travels in European Turkey",1850,by Edmond Spencer we read: "The population of Uskioub (the name of Skopje when it was under Ottoman rule) consisting of Arnouts (Albanians),Armenians, Zinzars (Vlachs), Greeks, Bulgarians and Serbians, amounts to upwards of twelve thousands" http://books.google.com/books? |

To the idiot who says steves parents speak ancient macedonian...the ancient macedonian language was greek...the tomb of philip was written in greek...and aristotle..perhaps you have heard of him was also a greek from the greek city state of macedon....so if he is macedonian in descent he is greek....if he speaks slavic then he is vardarskan or bulgarian or yugoslavian....but not greek steve should stop saying he is macedonian it is the equvilant of vincent lecavalier saying he is a quebecer and not a canadian...so lets put this to bed if steve says he is macedonian he is greek...if he says he is not greek then he is not macedonian he is a slav. |

Steve is one of he nicest guys and greatest talents you'll see for a long time. I've been a huge fan since he stepped on the ice for the Sarnia Sting. Talk about play maker. Tampa should play him more...then maybe they'll have a chance of winning. And yes he does have a gf and is true blue Nitehawk |
