Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has confirmed the club are interested in signing Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg. Mellberg has been strongly linked with a move to Juve with the player yet to sign a new deal with the English outfit. The Swedish international's contract expires at the end of the season and reports have suggested that Mellberg has agreed a pre-contract with Juventus. Gigli played down talk that his club had already agreed a deal for Mellberg, but confirmed he was

[IMG Sorry, ladies. He’s taken.]•Just so you know, Big Phil has opened the door for Luis Figo to return (again) to the Portuguese national team. Seems incredibly unlikely — he’s not the sort of player who would be happy doing the mentoring thing and not playing much, and the next major tournament is a full year away — but any sort of Figo love is worth reporting. (Also, now that I’ve told you, I have an excuse to feature a picture of him with this post. See how that works?) •Much like the Saga

[IMG Balzaretti]Though nothing is official quite yet, it’s understood that Juve defender Federico Balzaretti will join Fiorentina today. (Or, in the words of Google Translate: “Negotiation sluice with the Juventus.” Sluice! Does anyone use that word? Ever? Who programs that translating machine, Charles Dickens?) A former U21 international, Balzaretti’s been a regular at Juve for the last two years (After joining on a free from the bankrupt Torino, the turncoat.) but was told when the season en

This would be a battle between the 3rd place AC Milan and 6th place Fiorentina. AC Milan would want to defend thier 3 rd position against Lazio whom is currently in the 4th spot with 1 point less and Fiorentina would wants to defend thier 6th spot with Empoli behind them only on goal difference. The home team would be tired after playing Manchester United and would missing out a number of top player like Alberto Gilardino, Gennaro Gattuso, Ronaldo & Maldini. The away team would welcome back Toni

Fiorentina’s Czech defender Tomas Ujfalusi turned down a move to Liverpool this summer, according to agent Pavel Paska. The 29-year-old international joined the Viola from Bundesliga side Hamburg in 2004 and has since become a fixture in the Gigliati defence. While Ufo seems at home at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, it comes as something of a surprise that he refused a move to Anfield that could have seen a vast pay hike. “When Jamie Carragher was injured, Rafael Benitez made us an offer,

Somebody Close That Window! Published August 30th, 2007 The Boot Room , Liverpool , soccer 0 Comments Although the silly season winded down (at least for Liverpool) a few weeks ago, the summer transfer window officially closes come Saturday. After the checks for Torres, Benayoun and Babel were cashed, you’d have thought that our non-youth spending was done. Yet, with Carra’s injury, the near-miss on Heinze, and (to a lesser extent) the departure of Paletta, Rafa still has one toe in th
